Unfunny Dane Cook Rants

Can't wait for Simon Sez 2....

He's moderately funny for avout three minutes if you happen to catch him at the right spot in his material... but you quickly realize that at best his material is aimed at the segment of the younger generation with Paris Hiltonesque intellects, and at worst he just cluelessly panders to the milder right-wing views.

Was listening to him, slightly amused in a dumb-and-dumber way, when he veered into attacking atheists. I got turned off, not because I'm an atheist - good jokes are good jokes. It just wasn't funny. Lame. Totally lame hit piece with no humor, but he knew his audience would eat it up because of their background - which they did.

Comedians - slam us atheists all you want, just please make it FUNNY.

First of all, Cook steals material from other comics. Secondly, for a guy who had a show that featured him taking dumps in garbage cans, he got all hot and bothered when some guy farted in the studio during a taping of Crank Yankers.

Stealing jokes is pretty low. I had no idea he was mildly right-wing, though. What I've seen of him has been pretty apolitical.

Yeah, I haven't really had the impression that any members of his audience are smart enough to understand political humor. He knows his audience, and panders to it.

But you are all correct. His only funny bit (and I've listened to 2 of his CDs while on road trips) is the bit about his grandmother cheating at monopoly.

He's not Richard Pryor ... but nobody is (well, except maybe Dave Chappelle).

I'll say the dude is funnier than Jeff Foxworthy, Pauly Shore, Wanda Sykes, Colin (the dude that used to be on MTV), Larry the Cable Guy, etc., etc. I even think he's funnier than the most over rated comedian on the planet - Chris Rock (talk about unoriginal and a joke jacker).

Cook's B&E skit is better than anything those fools have done.

MacSwain... NO ONE is Richard Pryor... no ones even close. Dave is his own man, sure some Richard influence clearly there - but Rich was and remains hands above a true stand out comedic innovator.

Craig - Wanda Sykes is actually pretty funny - unfortunately, I think she's just gotten tired and opted for cashing in on the easy jokes.

None of those people is less funny than Cook. I'd rather listen to 3 hours of "You might be a redneck..." than 30 minutes of Cook. His whole act apparently consists of OVER enNUNciating EVeryTHing so it's more EXtrEME.

Occasionally I'll watch his shows...occasionally I'll laugh, but after spending my time watching him, I feel unfulfilled. His humor isn't very intelligent...I notice most of it is based on odd and extravagant gestures, poses, and faces, and a lot of his material only appeals because one can relate to what he's saying, the story he's telling, and one only thinks it's funny because "it happened JUST LIKE THAT to me!"

And yes, the Atheist joke, I thought it could have been a good joke if a true comedian had written it, but Dane was simply too...straightforwardly crude about the whole thing. There's ways of making fun of something/someone without being crude, and Dane didn't really accomplish that with his joke. While I enjoyed the "pwnage" on the Atheist guy (I'm Atheist but I don't deny that there are real butthole Atheists out there), I just didn't laugh. I didn't think the joke was laugh-worthy.

So...you now have my spheel on why Dane Cook is not a true comedian...haha.

I really and truly do not think that he meant that as a verbal attack against them honestly. in fact, I just recently saw a bulletin on Yahoo! Answers, that an atheist wrote that said that he thought that that skit in particualr was VERY funny.. I am realy actually very shocked that someone would post something like this on the internet saying that he is an ass and not funny because he did a bit on your religion.
