Believe it or not, I'm inclined to agree with Jay for the most part. Althought Rush is a repugnant human being and reaches a wide audience, it's not the RESPONSIBILITY of any conservative to denounce and condemn him. If Jay does not listen to Rush, and couldn't give two shits about him, he shouldn't be condemned for his inaction on the matter.

This is not to say, of course, that the conservative movement is not a bastion of racism. It's not that all conservatives are racist, and it's not that all liberals are NOT racist. But of those who are racist, I think it's clearly skewed towards the conservative side.

Back to the original post: Biden is a racist, a tool, and a dick. Campaign DOA 2008!

"Advocating the murder of the President is egregious."

Sure, but so is advocating the murder of liberals, and right wingers do that all the time, both on the internet and talk radio, whether calling for the death of Clinton, Michael Moore, the elimination of liberals in general, etc.

So you win. Taking Randi off the air is fine with me, as long as that principle also applies to Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, G. Gordon Liddy, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, and whoever else whips you howling eunuchs into a blood-frenzy on a daily basis.

But none of that makes Randi Rhodes "high-profile". The principle that would compel me to denounce Joe Biden is the same that would compel me to denounce any other liberal who revealed him or herself as a racist.

You, having no principles, adopt the coward's pose of pretending that Limbaugh's racism is harmless, and that you have no responsibility to react to it. Incredibly, you even go so far as to claim it's GOOD that no conservatives reacted to his blatant, hostile race-baiting.

That's a lie, and it's plain dishonorable. But it's your life and your ideology, so live with it however you choose, Jay. Your tacit, passive encouragement of white supremecists is on your conscience, not mine.

Indeed. I'm interested in policing my own side a) when they do something egregious, and b) when they're high profile. Randi and her comments are neither.

A. Advocating the murder of the President is egregious. If you don't think it is, then you've got serious issues.

B. Randi Rhodes is part of 'Air America.' No radio group in the country has gotten more press than they have.

Doc, you're a hypocrite plain and simple. Your words here show that you have no principles and that you're only interested in making sure "the other side" somehow goes down.

You don't care about people on the radio advocating the assassination of a President. You have no respect for the spirit of the first amendment.

Pedro's right. PATHETIC is the more apt word and this conversation is over.

Cheers.

Rush reaches an order of magnitude more people than Rhodes. If you think she's comparable, I'd like to see it.

"You're attempting to shrug it off because Rhodes doesn't have as high a media profile"

Indeed. I'm interested in policing my own side a) when they do something egregious, and b) when they're high profile. Randi and her comments are neither.

You, on the other hand, are interested in pretending that a) Rush is not influential, and b) it's good and normal that his racism gets no reaction from conservatives.

A) is simple dishonesty.
B) just proves my point. Thanks, Jay!

Anyway, if your only problem with Rhodes is that she used violent, eliminationist rhetoric towards the opposition, then by your definition all right-wing radio and much of the conservative blogosphere would have to go, too.

Seriously, Malkin, Coulter, Liddy, Hannity, Limbaugh, LGF, Free Republic, Savage -- violent rhetoric towards liberals is their bread and butter. You can have their violent words when you pry them from their cold, dead lips.

I think Rush's comments are worse.

So calling a half black, half white guy a "halfrican" to you is worse than advocating the assassination of a US President. Your priorities are screwed up my friend.

More to the point, Randi Rhodes is not comparable to Rush by any stretch of your imagination.

Why not? She's a nationally syndicated talk radio host on Air America. When I told you that Rush reached .9% of the population you were apoplectic. Now all of a sudden, the numbers make a difference?

If you actually want a comparison, come up with someone more central to modern liberalism. Unfortunately for you, though, no liberal ideologues have been given a media profile like Rush. You're out of luck.

Again with the weasel tactics. You're attempting to shrug it off because Rhodes doesn't have as high a media profile as Limbaugh.

You're a hypocrite.

I think Rush's comments are worse. I have no problem with Randi Rhodes going off the air. Perhaps she should. If she had said what Rush did, I would certainly sign a petition. Why won't you, given that Rush has made these racist comments?

More to the point, Randi Rhodes is not comparable to Rush by any stretch of your imagination. I've never heard her or seen any of her books. By contrast, I've seen Rush hosting his own TV show, seen his books, and heard about his radio show for over 15 years now. A better comparison might be Franken, but even he's nowhere near as big as Rush.

If you actually want a comparison, come up with someone more central to modern liberalism. Unfortunately for you, though, no liberal ideologues have been given a media profile like Rush. You're out of luck.

Still no good explanation why none of Rush's millions of conservative listeners had a problem with his vicious racism? The simplest and best explanation is that it is because, like you, THEY ARE CONSERVATIVES.

What matters is that some conservative, ANY CONSERVATIVE, take it upon themselves to call the nation's most prominent conservative idologue on his racist, supremicist bullshit. You are representative of that type of cowardice, mewling desperately "*I* don't listen to Rush, so why should *I* feel any responsibility?" -- even after learning about it and ackowledging it for what it is.

Apparently all conservatives, listeners, worshippers alike, have decided to give him a pass. Drudge hasn't picked up the story and put an alert by it. Fox News hasn't mentioned it. Nobody. Crickets.

The real story, though, is that even if they did know about it, they still wouldn't care, as you keep emphasizing in the deluded belief that it somehow helps your position.

Again, (and I will just copy and paste):

Where is your letter of protest and demand that Randi Rhodes be fired from Air America Radio for advocating the assassination of a United States President? If your bank account is so full or morals as you say, then I can only assume that since you're demanding of me that I take to the streets in order to eradicate Limbaugh from the airwaves you must have led a campaign to have Rhodes removed from her job. Unless of course you think advocating killing the President of the United States is ok.

Again, put up or shut up.

Conservatism in America is predicated on toleration of racism and the electoral courting of racists. In conservatism, there's no radar for racism to generate a blip in the first place. Thanks for making my point for me, Jay. You are truly a brave man to see evil and do nothing about it.

Jackass, you said "liberals talked about it." I said that I Googled it and even in the LIBERAL realm, it barely registered. Does that mean they're all ok with racism as well?

According to your logic, they are.

Thanks for making my point for me, Jay. You are truly a brave man to see evil and do nothing about it.

Wow, line-by-line. Too bad there's no content.

Saying a lot of shit doesn't make you any less wrong.

If there's any conservative, let a alone "a half a dozen bloggers" who "reach more conservatives than Limbaugh," please back that up. I will accept that Pat Robertson might be, but bloggers?

Admittedly, I was wrong on that statement. While the top 5 conservative blogs draw 600,000 readers a day, it's not as much as Limbaugh.

Whatever your many confusions, you're certainly clear on one thing: Limbaugh's racism is nothing to worry about. Live and let live! Are you so touchy-feely when it comes to lynchings, too? In what other ways do you enjoy morally debasing yourself?

Here we go again. You're making claims that are not true and you still have yet to respond to my challenge on this issue. I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh. I don't read his website or his newsletter. Yet, for some reason, you feel that I am somehow obligated to join forces with others and get him taken off the air.

My guess is you won't have anything which would make you a big fat hypocrite.

But on conservative silence: millions of people heard it. Liberals talked about it.

They did? I Googled it and saw it mentioned on a few sites, most notable Media Matters who would declare somebody's fart had a conservative slant. Otherwise, this hateful racist language you speak of, barely generated a blip on the radar.

rather than your own particular cowardly "hear-no-evil" contribution to it, Jay.

Like I said, put up or shut up.

But since you brought it up: are you a white racial conservative, by any chance, Jay? Do you get real worked up about "welfare mothers" and real, real sick of hearing about Katrina? Ever had approving thoughts about Larry the Cable Guy?

You're a very strange person.

Wow, line-by-line. Too bad there's no content. It's sort of a nerf-fisking.

If there's any conservative, let a alone "a half a dozen bloggers" who "reach more conservatives than Limbaugh," please back that up. I will accept that Pat Robertson might be, but bloggers? That's easily measured, and I strongly, strongly doubt that you could show, say, Malkin or LGF reaching a bigger audience than Limbaugh. But since you believe it, show it. There's a reason Rush got that that eight-year, $285 million contract. It's because advertisers understand what you don't: that Rush has a unique and gigantic audience that no one else does.

"Oh so now it's the silence of Rush's listeners that I'm defending? I thought before I was defending Limbaugh's racism?"

Whatever your many confusions, you're certainly clear on one thing: Limbaugh's racism is nothing to worry about. Live and let live! Are you so touchy-feely when it comes to lynchings, too? In what other ways do you enjoy morally debasing yourself?

But on conservative silence: millions of people heard it. Liberals talked about it. Conservatives and other moral cretins, like you, ignored it. I have no idea what's going on in your mind; it's the continuing saga moral failure of conservatives when it comes to race that I'm primarily interested in, rather than your own particular cowardly "hear-no-evil" contribution to it, Jay. But since you brought it up: are you a white racial conservative, by any chance, Jay? Do you get real worked up about "welfare mothers" and real, real sick of hearing about Katrina? Ever had approving thoughts about Larry the Cable Guy?

"it was the mid-west state of Ohio that tipped the election in favor of Bush."

I'm talking about the GOP/conservative base, not the swing voters. The base consists of white Southerners. The "solid South" of racial conservatism, where Limbaugh-style racial hostility is tolerated. You're familiar with places where racism is tolerated, Jay -- your own brain is just such a location!
