If This Is A Crisis, She’s Already Won

Conservatives Don Surber and Michelle Malkin are pushing the idea that President Clinton is some kind of liability to Sen. Clinton while also swallowing whole the spin that her comments about evil men were about President Clinton. This is what happens with prolonged exposure to the conservative echo chamber, you start believing that Clinton is unpopular and not looked back at fondly by the American people – when in fact it’s just the opposite. Especially when compared to the current occupant there’s downright Clinton nostalgia. As a liberal I don’t pretend that people aren’t fond of President Reagan, no matter how much of a disaster I may feel he was policy-wise. But then again, I don’t put a lot of stock in echoes.

no matter how much of a disaster I may feel he was policy-wise. But then again, I don’t put a lot of stock in echoes.
When you start saying Reagan was a disaster policy-wise, you’re listening to the echoes. People don’t look back fondly on a Presidency if it sucked.
Actually they can like and love the man and the policy still be bad. Both in the area of deficits and AIDS I don’t think people are yearning for the Reagan era.
I think you are wrong on Clinton. Between the polarized right that won’t forgive his real and apprarent moral transgressions to the yahoo left that sees him as a ‘Republican-accomodatin’ DLC centrist that caved on things like gay rights welfare reform, there is really very little broad based admiration of Clinton. My sense is that the left likes Jimmy Carter better, especially since he’s embraced Mike Moore and become an Israel hater.
If term limits were lifted and Bill Clinton were able to run for president again, he would mop the floor with anybody the GOP could put up against him. Whatever “moral transgressions” he had didn’t affect his approval ratings or his ability to be an effective president.
So what you are saying Dugger is that the fringe whackos don’t like him. That leaves a lot of ground in the middle.
Yes, Dugger, you sure have your finger on the pulse of the American left. I too adore Michael Moore. How can you not? He’s so cute and cuddly. Not to mention that he’s right about absolutely everything, and isn’t annoying or abrasive at all!
Oh, and don’t get me started on Israel. Goddamn Zionist sons of bitches… as a member of the American left, you might rightly expect that I support Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in his quest to wipe Israel off the map. Seriously, why doesn’t the man just show some Bush-like initiative and invade already? Damn the torpedoes!
Seriously, Dugger, you’re a complete asshat. What’s the matter with you?
“My sense is that the left likes Jimmy Carter better, especially since he’s embraced Mike Moore and become an Israel hater. ”
Ah yes, on Planet Dugger in the dim Wingnut galaxy, anyone who has reservations about apartheid policies, confining populations to open-air prisons and use of American military hardware in state-sanctioned assassinations is an “Israel Hater”.
What is it called when other nations that don’t play ball with the U.S. practice the same policy?
Terror.
Oliver, that’s silly. The “era of AIDS” was worse in the 90′s than in the 80′s and nobody cared about deficits. People look back fondly because the American public did well in the 1980′s economically and the Cold War ended in the 80′s. I don’t understand why this is so difficult for people to just admit. No, they have to say that Reagan was a bad President because that’s what the echo chamber needs to hear.

Jay is right. Reagan was a great president. Just ask any Guatemalan, Nicaraguan or Salvadoran.
Or homosexual, or black or anyone who isn’t a rich white guy…
Or homosexual, or black or anyone who isn’t a rich white guy…
Yeah, only rich white guys did well.
I knew I shouldn’t have wasted my time trying to reason with drones.
What are the lasting effects of the Reagan years? Huge national debt, terrorism, and energy dependence. Nice legacy.
What are the lasting effects of the Reagan years?
Don’t forget all those kewl weapons systems we gave the Iraqis.
Reagan taught us how to set up and support death squads — just like we’re doing in Iraq today! Let Freedom Reign!
STAR WARS, biatch.
Reagan was a boob.
