This is why I usually have spare change, and often buy a pizza for the homeless. Not much, but it's something.

Dammit! Sometimes I think I am reading impaired! That's 2 in a row, Pedro. Details I miss from skimming the article at work.
In the words of Emily Latella,
"That's very different. Never mind."

my apologies....I didn't realize you hadn't read the article...

"Floyd Lipscomb, who police said is homeless, tried to pull Slaughter out of the channel. But he did not have the strength to pull Slaughter and his heavy wool coat out of the water, Slaughter said last night from his room at George Washington University Hospital.

So Lipscomb held on tight to Slaughter's arm and told him: " 'You're not going to die tonight. I'm going to hold on to you. I got you,' " Slaughter said.

He never went in the water, he held him from the side of the river or dock...which was the exactly right thing to do. but his life was not at risk holding onto the guy....at least by my read. Again, this doesn't lessen the act one iota, simply puts it in a different class.

Duros, OW got a detail wrong. Mr. Lipscomb didn't dive into the water. He was on the dock.

It is on that basis that our Dr. makes his diagnosis.

Duros is part of that leftist wing that wants to dumb everything down to equality, to prevent ANYONE from being exemplary.

I take exception to that, sir. There are winners and there are losers in life. I am not one of those libruls who think there shouldn't be a score in a little league game. Mr. Autrey did a brave, heroic and noble thing. No question about it. He risked his own life to save someone else. Show me how Mr. Lipscomb didn't do the same before he got assistance. How much time do you spend in 34 degree water?

Oh, and by the way duros, it isn't a zero sum game. The truly heroic nature of one takes absolutely nothing away from the equally laudable, though less heroic, nature of the other.

From the movie "The Incredibles"

"When everyone is special, doesn't that mean NO ONE is special?"

Duros is part of that leftist wing that wants to dumb everything down to equality, to prevent ANYONE from being exemplary.

My theory is, this is an idea usually espoused by the underachievers to make themselves look better...

What kind of doctor are again?

See, I have this theory that the more specialized a doctor is is in direct correlation with how much of a dick that doctor is, surgeons topping the list.

Kudos all around, but duros, again, fails to see the significant difference in these two actions, why one might be more "houseworthy" than the other

" Mr. Autrey lay on Mr. Hollopeter, his heart pounding, pressing him down in a space roughly a foot deep. The train’s brakes screeched, but it could not stop in time.

Five cars rolled overhead before the train stopped, the cars passing inches from his head, smudging his blue knit cap with grease. Mr. Autrey heard onlookers’ screams. “We’re O.K. down here,” he yelled, “but I’ve got two daughters up there. Let them know their father’s O.K.” He heard cries of wonder, and applause. "

In this case, two guys held the drowning mans arms.

I don't know why liberals feel that EVERYTHING must be equal. One of these two acts is truly heroic, one was not.

Instead of politicizing his actions, I'll just leave it at that.
