DOA

Bush is going to push domestic policies in his state of the union, but you almost wonder why the very unpopular president just doesn’t cancel the speech and be done with it. We are not going to pass his whack-job ideas in the House or Senate. We’ve got a good stack of progressive legislation working its way through the congress, and a scant two years from now we wil have in all likelihood a Democratic president (with increased Democratic majorities in the House and Senate) to sign it into law. The Bush con jobs ended with the plan to privatize social security, not only is his capital spent but he’s overdrawn and the bank wants its funds repaid with interest.

Unless he proposes a plan to use switch grass to go to Mars, then all bets are off.

Expect him to tack hard to the left on 2 or 3 individual issues, but in a distractingly fascist way.

Health care, national service, naturalisation… whatever. anything but iraq. anything but iraq. keep yer hands off iraq.

I figure it will be about 15 minutes long, instead of the usual hour or more.

Why don’t the Republicans just go away and cede the government to the Democrats?

You mean like the Democrats did when the Republicans controlled both Houses of Congress and the Presidency?

Why do the Democrats hate the American system of government?

  4. You’re, right, Frank! I hate American government and the system in general! I only wish Laura’s anti-gang initiative from last year’s speech didn’t work so well; I really want to riot!

He’s going to devote 20 minutes solely to cracking down on steroids in baseball.

I don’t think he’ll cancel the speech, Oliver. Doing so, and not providing the SOTU report in any way, would be a violation of his Constitutional duties.

LOL! Yeah, Bush cares about the Constitution and the law! I knew you’d get it too.

Bush is the lamest of lame ducks. The Republicans don’t have to fight, they are running from Bush so hard, all the Democrats have to do is take a position that Bush opposes and BOOM they have a majority in both houses of Congress. Nobody wants to wear Bush Policies this year. They’re so 2005. The only one wearing Bush Policies is John McCain, and I think that’s because he’s got them tattooed on his body now, poor dear. He had a lock on the ‘08 nomination and now he’ll have to wear Iraq as a hat for the next two years. That may not work out very well for him.

Health care and global warming. The Democrats need to stop dicking around on them and get some solid work done now. They don’t have to wait for a Democratic president. They can get the numbers to override a veto right now, so they should just go for it. And they need to do some real work on ending our involvement in Iraq, and right quick, too. But those first two I mentioned, there is enough national will and general support that Republicans can safely vote for a universal health care system and for an emissions bill (and raising CAFE standards–you hear me Michigan delegation? We can’t afford your special interests anymore) without losing any additional ground in either house. They were hung on Iraq, but emissions and health care have gained sufficient public support to make them both feasible and imperative.

dbk: What do we need health care for — swimming lessons?

We’re all going to be underwater in thirty years, anyway.

Most notably from the lack of interruptions by applause.

  9. Duros62 says:

not providing the SOTU report in any way, would be a violation of his Constitutional duties.

Actually, it wouldn’t. The Constitution says “from time to time the President will report to Congress.” Presidents didn’t do it every year until the 20th century, and they didn’t do during prime time unitl LBJ.

  10. Oliver says:

And I believe the form of the report can be a written one. Dubya’s first book report!

  11. Duros62 says:

That is true, it doesn’t have to be televised.

But Congress probably would not want it written in crayon.

  12. Duros62 says:

    “Dear Congress
How are you? I am fine. Being President is fun, but it iz hard work. Laura says I can get another pony for my birthday in Crawford, but I can’t keep it here at the White House cuz it smells too bad here already.
We should totally go to Mars next year.
    Your pal,
    George W. Bush

    The End.

  13. Duros62 says:

P.S. here is a picher I drew of my new pony.
    Your pal, George W. Bush

Man, that Frank sure is bitter.

  15. S says:

    Well done, Duros62! LoL
