Gov. Richardson Is In

Billrichardsonrunning

Bill Richardson, the only governor so far one of two governors (along with Tom Vilsack), is running for president.

New Mexico Governor Enters Presidential Race

Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., said Sunday he is taking the first step toward an expected White House run in 2008, offering extensive experience in Washington and the world stage as he seeks to become the first Hispanic president.

“I am taking this step because we have to repair the damage that’s been done to our country over the last six years,” said Richardson, a former congressman, U.N. ambassador and Energy Department secretary.

Once again we see the amazing contrast between the two parties. For the Democrats we’ve got Gov. Richardson, a product of immigration who’s been in public service at both the state and federal levels. For the Republicans you’ve got Tom Tancredo who is running on the idea that “America is closed”.

yea amazing contrast according to donna brazile
“”On the Democratic side, we see that and we say, ‘Hmmm,’ ” says Donna Brazile, who was Al Gore’s campaign manager in 2000 and is African-American. She credits Bush with instinctively believing that surrounding himself with able women and people of color helps him make better decisions — a lesson she says some Democratic officeholders and candidates have yet to absorb

In the democrat party, there is lots of talk of “diversity”, in the republican party, we look for quality and the “content of their character, not the color of their skin…” and amazingly enough, have more minorities in high level cabinet positions than ever before….

While I agree with the last commenters sentiments, I find it interesting that the person is willingly self-displayed as a Bush clone. You can spot them a mile away, just look for the term “Democratic Party” to be replaced by the obvious Bushism “Democrat Party”.

  3. Gravatar Icon 3 Nimrod Gently

And his logo is still better than Brownback’s.

  4. Gravatar Icon 4 Oliver Willis

Except all of Bush’s people don’t know their asshole from their earhole. Best to put the best qualified people in place, I don’t care if the person is black, brown, white or otherwise. How many elected officials of color have the GOP got? What party is the only black senator? The only black female congresswomen?

The reason the Democrats will win the White House in 2008 is because they’re fielding probably the best collection of candidates of all time.

I wouldn’t bat an eyelash if either Richardson, Obama, Edwards or Clark (get in!) won.

I’m not big on Hilary and Kerry already lost (noone likes a “loser). And as much as I love Gore, I believe he turns of centrists.

But the Dems have a GREAT field to choose from.

Oh dear … cue Frank’s dissertation on why StarkyLuv is dead wrong.

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 pedromd07

just keep moving the goalposts oliver. Only elected officials count?

The ethnic republicans stop running the moment the calls of “uncle tom!” start to ring out from the lefties….(See Colin Powell….)

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 Oliver Willis

Actually Powell didn’t run because his wife feared right wing racist crazies might try to kill him. No, only elected officials don’t count but you don’t pick a moron like Condi Rice for such an important job just because she’s black.

The Republican party can’t elect black officials because a) the party is still dead set against blacks and b) people smell a black republican phony a mile away. Steele, Blackwell, and Swann all had support from the GOP leadership and the media and all went down to double-digit defeat.

Serious question: Why do the Democrats always have so many people seeking the nomination?

The Republicans seem to have a few, but most of them are viewed as not serious.

BTW, Oliver, where did you get your Ph. D? The “moron”* got hers from U of Denver in 1981…

    You were, what, 14?

    * I guess you heard that leftists on the blogosphere have so worn out “idiot”, that it was moved to the List of Banned Words for 2006

I’m looking forward to seeing Gov in the debates. He will bring some interesting perspectives on immigration, national security, and on top of that, he is running against a Clinton, in which Bill hired Richardson as Energy Secretary. But on that account, he will have some tough q’s to answer.

BTW, Oliver, where did you get your Ph. D? The “moron”* got hers from U of Denver in 1981…

We don’t need the example of Dr. Rice to prove that even morons sometimes get doctoral degrees. We have our own Dr. Pedro to show us that.

Seriously, “moron” is hyperbolic: Condi is obviously not literally a moron, but she is an abysmal embarrassment at both the jobs she’s had for this administration.

    Also seriously: getting a PhD
doesn’t take an extraordinary amount of brains. It takes persistence and the capacity to spout copious amounts of silver-tongued bullsh*t. I should know.

Serious question: Why do the Democrats always have so many people seeking the nomination?

Because democrats really believe in democracy, and everybody wants his/her voice to be heard. Republicans pretend to believe in democracy but are really authoritarian. They naturally gravitate to the alpha dog of the day (or, in some cases, alpha dog’s designated puppet).

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 midderpidge

Pedro, which ones of those officials are competent? Rice? No. Abu Gonzalez? No. Powell? Run out.

Richardson sure has the credentials to be president, a nice change from the current boob.

For the Democrats we’ve got Gov. Richardson, a product of immigration

What kind of stupid shit is that? Richardson was born in the United States and raised in Massachusetts. His mother was Mexican and his father was American!

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Nimrod Gently

    His mother was Mexican

    Sigh.

    And furthermore:

William Blaney/Blaine Richardson, the son of Boston born naturalist William Blaney Richardson and his Mexican wife Rosaura Ojeda, was born in Nicaragua, grew up in Boston, and worked for Citibank as an executive in Mexico.

Yeah, I’m going to go ahead and need you never to say anything ever again as long as you live there, Jay.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 Oliver Willis

Much like myself, Gov Richardson’s mother was not born in America. She immigrated here. He is the product of immigration. This has been English 101 for Jay.

And a pile of degrees does not a non-idiot make. I don’t even have a bachelor’s degree yet somehow I was able to climb out of my stupor to realize the war in Iraq was a bad idea, yet Condi and her PhD still thinks it was. Ergo, idiot. (How’s the Condi for president campaign going? Is your fan site still around?)

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 fd10801

I’m not working on CondiPundit now — too many things to do — when are you gonna get a blog?

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 Nimrod Gently

That made so little sense as a retort it’s incredible.

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 S

    But Nimrod, it’s Frank.

He’s old, taking care of his teenage sons, hosting a radio program and juggling a LOTTA extracurricular things so it’s understandable he doesn’t make sense.

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 fd10801

N G :: I’m sure very little of what anybody says makes sense to you…

You should take some B - complex — it’s believed it helps restore lost brain cells…

s: You, on the other hand, have devoted your life to annoying me. What’s the matter, don’t own a TV?

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 vwcat

I like Richardson. He has some great fp creds.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 fd10801

    fp = federal prison?

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Jay

Much like myself, Gov Richardson’s mother was not born in America. She immigrated here. He is the product of immigration. This has been English 101 for Jay.

Oliver, guess what? Unless a Native American is running for President, ALL of the candidates are “products of immigration.” You’re completely asinine remark made it sound as if he was born outside the country and became a citizen. Of course, he wouldn’t be allowed to run for President.

Your statement was just dumb, especially in the context you tried to wrap it.

Yeah, I’m going to go ahead and need you never to say anything ever again as long as you live there, Jay.

    Eat it, limey.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 midderpidge

Jay: trying to cover for his stupid remarks and lack of reading comprehension.

Because democrats really believe in democracy, and everybody wants his/her voice to be heard = “They are power hungry”

Republicans, on the other hand, are servile. Just look at how they acted with Bush.

    Bush-enablers, the lot of them.

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 Benny05

Actually, Richardson is the only sitting governor in the race–in revisiting the post.

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 Nimrod Gently

I’ll see your “eat it, Limey” (what is it, the 18th century?) and raise you a “fuck you, dickwad”.

  29. Gravatar Icon 29 Dugger

Richardson is leading VP candidate - for Hillsy especially.

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 midderpidge

Frank, there are more Republican candidates than Democratic ones, right now.

    R filed- Brownback, Cox, Smith
R exploratory- Gilmore, Guilliani, Hunter, McCain, Paul, Romney, Tancredo, Thompson.
R serious interest- Gingrich, Hagel, Huckabee, Pataki

D Filed- Dodd, Edwards, Gravel, Kucinich, Vilsack
D exploratory- Biden, Obama, Clinton, Richardson
D serious interest- Clark, Kerry, Sharpton.

Serious question: Why do the Democrats always have so many people seeking the nomination?

The Republicans seem to have a few, but most of them are viewed as not serious.

This election poses a situation we haven’t seen since 1952–both major parties have no automatic front-runner. No incumbent, and no vice-presidential successor.

The last time that happened was Eisenhower versus Stevenson. You can expect to see anybody and everybody testing the waters this time.

  32. Gravatar Icon 32 HoZay

Bill Richardson is the most qualified candidate on the issues the next president *must* deal with: energy conservation, alternative energy, nukes, immigration, foreign policy (he already knows most foreign leaders). It wouldn’t be all on-the-job training, as it would for most of the others.

  33. Gravatar Icon 33 fd10801

midderpidge and quaker: The question was directed at the point that there seems always to be lots of Democrats going for the brass ring.

Granted, the field is open this time, but if you look back at 1952, there were only a few contenders on each side.

I think I read somewhere in the last few years that “at any given moment in America, there are 20,000 politicians that want to be President.”

    Are 19,000 of them Democrats?
