Obama’s ‘08 Decision Coming Soon
Sen. Barack Obama is almost ready to make an announcement about his potential presidential campaign, he said Sunday on Face The Nation.“I will have something to say about that fairly soon,” Obama told Bob Schieffer. “Obviously, there’s been a lot of talk. It’s something that I’ve been considering. I’ve said I’ve been considering it. And we’ll be making an announcement fairly soon.”
A tipster with knowledge of Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) presidential campaign planning hints that an official announcement may be made on the Chicago-based Oprah Winfrey Show this week.
And then there’s this supremely silly story in the London Times, arguing that the “black leadership” (note: Barack Obama is one of, along with Jim Clyburn, the highest ranking elected officials in America that happens to be black) isn’t sold on Obama. Furthermore it suggests that Obama would split the black vote with… Al Sharpton? What sane black person has Sharpton even in their top ten? A non-issue backed up by lack of any serious quotes – that Sharpton or Jesse Jackson haven’t endorsed Obama even though he hasn’t announced yet is supposed to be a deal, but it ain’t.
Sharpton is looking for relevance in a time when more African-Americans view him as a self-promoting egomaniac. Please Al, who made you our spokesman in the first place?
I’m tired of Jackson and Sharpton always claiming to be speaking for the African-American community.
Sen. Obama, in addition to having the usual corrupt associates of most Illinois Democrats, has another problem.
Only white liberals will vote for him out of him due to “white guilt”.
Blacks already vote for Democrats, so who’s left? Almost everybody.
So he loses this one, the Tin Foil Hat Brigade blames it on FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, racism and Diebold, and he tries again in 2012, against a Republican incumbent.
See? Eight years into the future in 100 words or less.
fd, every conservative Republican I know (and I know real conservatives, unlike you and unlike the fools who pass in Washington) supports Obama; I’ve had five farmers who’ve never voted for a Democrat in their lives tell me they’ll vote for Obama. They’re excited. If he’s the nominee, he’ll win with 57% of the vote.
Sadly the London story is not really that silly. Sharpton was quoted earlier this week as having stated he voiced his reservations in private to Obama, so at least I give him points for that. I agree with the theory that they are jealous.
Look at the recent elections neither men were called to camapagin for Henry Ford, Jr in TN or Steele [keeping in mind that he was a rep. though].
Ford, Obama and others in recent years have made it very clear that they are not tied to them because the black community has made it clear that they want a new voice to represent their interests.
In fairness, it is also true that you do not see the black community leading the charge for the “Draft Obama” movement. Will they support him – YES – but if he wins it will be because he has the overwhelming support of blacks and white liberals who are not really sold on Hillary.
fd, … I know real conservatives, unlike you
First time I was ever called a non – conservative.
But you know me best!
If Frank is as right on Obama as he was on the 2006 midterms (that prognostication was based on Frank’s feelings too – no actual evidence, polling, or other concrete data), the good senator can start seriously measuring the drapes at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave – ASAP.
Whatever you say, Oliver. You’re not a betting man, are you?
Mike: Exactly how many conservative Republicans do you know?
Seriously?
2? 4? 6?
Only white liberals will vote for him out of him due to “white guilt”.
Frankie. Racist douchebag, and PROUD of it.
Mike: Exactly how many conservative Republicans do you know?
Seriously?
2? 4? 6?
How many liberals do you know? 0? 0? 0?
See? Eight years into the future in 100 words or less.
The Iraq war and November ‘06 has proven that you (as well as the rest of the GOP) can’t predict 6:00 at 5:30.
Blacks already vote for Democrats, so who’s left? Almost everybody.
Because black people certainly don’t matter. [rolleye]
It’s not the London Times, it’s just the Times. We get news outside of our nation’s capital, you know?
Personally I hope Frank keeps insisting the Republicans will win the White House next year. Especially since he’s basing that on the INDISPUTABLE FACT that they didn’t get absolutely buttraped in the midterms NO THEY DIDN’T IT OKAY ROCKETSHIP X-M WAS NOT A FAILURE
fd, I know several hundred. I live in a very conservative county, with lots of farmers and a fair bit of industry. Every single one I’ve talked to about this (over 100) has waxed rhapsodic over Obama.
Hey, at least Mike will stick up for conservatives the next time we hear about how they will NEVER vote for a black man.
As soon as Obama lights up a cigarette during a campaign stop, his presidential run will be over. The anti-smoking nazis will crucify him.
And yet, and yet, say what you will….
Sharpton has personified the crusade for gay rights and respect as the last civil rights fight out there.
Obama has jumped in bed with the Christer nu-nu’s instead.
Why the hypocrisy?
Only white liberals will vote for him out of him due to “white guilt”.
Blacks already vote for Democrats, so who’s left? Almost everybody.
What are you saying? That American voters will make their decision on the basis of race over party or policy?
I thought only far leftists considered the U.S. a “racist country.”
As soon as Obama lights up a cigarette during a campaign stop, his presidential run will be over. The anti-smoking nazis will crucify him.
That raises an interesting question. Who was the last President who was a smoker?
FDR was. Surely there’s been one since.
FYI, Jesse Jackson had this to say at this morning’s Rainbow/PUSH Coalition MLK breakfast, as he introduced the keynote speaker, Sen. Barack Obama:
“It’s a long, nonstop line between the march in Selma in 1965 and the inauguration in Washington in 2009.”
If that’s not an endorsement, I’m not sure what is.
Who was the last President who was a smoker?
How could I have forgotten? Clinton. Cigars!!
I’d say Obama has no problems as long as he uses those cigarettes only for their intended purpose.
This is worth pondering, particularly for Dugger and Frank and others who will never question the President on anything, ever.

What are you saying? That American voters will make their decision on the basis of race over party or policy?
Isn’t it amazing how one’s reading comprehension fails when it comes to race?
Mr. Obama is a conventional liberal. Despite Mike’s 100 conservative (?) farmers *, he will only get liberal votes. That didn’t win for either Kerry or Gore, now did it?
Before we get off on the wrong track, let me say it now: I am not a racist. I will no longer entertain or defend myself from those charges.
The number of people who won’t vote for him because he is black is negligible. They are not the reason he will not win. I would not support Condoleezza Rice for President if I was a racist, nor would I if I thought a black woman could not win.
And, Mr. Obama has something else to worry about.
* In liberal parlance, “real conservatives” are liberals.
I also think it’s interesting that Pajamas Media, the blog that he was bombing last week, directs us here today.
Oliver’s comments on Martin Luther King, Jr. today =
Perhaps because its hypocritical to ignore racial issues the other 364 days a year but bless the peacemaker on just one day.
And I see you’re rolling out the anti-Obama conspiracies early.
Perhaps because its hypocritical to ignore racial issues the other 364 days a year but bless the peacemaker on just one day.
a) You don’t ignore racial issues
b) Your comments on Dr. King seem to be limited to pointing out your belief that Republicans hated him. Not mentioning that Republicans praise him is not hypocritical – it shows a lack of integrity.
I thought MLK was tomorrow? Oh well, happy MLK Day then.
fd, Oliver was slamming PJmedia for being hypocritical. Also, Republicans did hate him, Ronald Reagan among them. That some of them now praise him…well, let’s just say I don’t believe them.
Mr. Obama is a conventional liberal. Despite Mike’s 100 conservative (?) farmers *, he will only get liberal votes.
But you said only black people and white liberals will vote for him. You’re not suggesting that black voters are all liberals are you?
I have been instructed by Oliver to answer when asked that question, “Blacks don’t vote for conservatives.”
Don’t believe me ?? Ask him.
As I said — I will not repeat it — I will not be race baited.
And I see you’re rolling out the anti-Obama conspiracies early.
What conspiracy? He’s either involved with a crook, or he is not. There’s no conspiracy.
Are is the new Democratic meme going to be that whenever you speak negatively of a Democrat, you’re engaged in a conspiracy?
I would not mind seeing Obama as president. I think he’d make a good president. However, one of the only things that sets Obama apart from other potential Democratic nominees is his “rock star” presence. Edwards, IMHO, actually is the person that we think Obama represents.
As far as smoking goes, the other thing Obama seems to (perhaps in collusion with the press) conspicuously avoid being photographed having a cigarette, much like the way FDR and the press colluded to avoid being pictured in a wheelchair or using braces.
If he were a conservative, I wouldn’t care if he smoked opium, as long as he dreamed of lowering taxes, cutting the budget, and leaving Americans alone.
I am a white person and I am not supporting Obama out of guilt. I have voted for other black candidates before. I really do not care.
If I like what a person is saying and doing I just like them. I believe it’s the same with alot of people now.
I saw the faces of the people in Iowa after he spoke. That was not guilt. that was inspiration, hope and longing.
Besides, as a woman I should be rooting for Hillary if the pundits are to be believed. I cannot stand that corporate insider witch.
Pundits are too blind to see and too smug in their own rightness to see what is really going on in the country.
inspiration, hope and longing.
There is a name for speakers that give people “inspiration, hope and longing.”
Demagogues
There is a name for speakers that give people “inspiration, hope and longing.”

This from a guy who supports George W. “Guy You Would Want to Have a Beer With” Bush. High-larious!
Before we get off on the wrong track, let me say it now: I am not a racist. I will no longer entertain or defend myself from those charges.
When we liberals say that when you accuse us of being terrorists, you tried to spin it to it being a confession of being terrorists. So, by logic, you must therefore be a racist, unless you and other conservatives were *gasp* wrong (Dah Dah DAAAAAAAAAH).
Only white liberals will vote for him out of him due to “white guilt”.
Blacks already vote for Democrats,
But you “won’t be race-baited”?
Rich.
Quaker: Spare me. We played this game before, and you lost that time. I don’t want your reluctant apology three days from now.
If you don’t know what I mean, ask me. If you think you know what I mean, why belabor it?
Your words are your words. “White liberals”, “White guilt”, “blacks already vote for Democrats”.
If that’s not race baiting, what does race baiting actually look like?
Gee, Quaker did I say “white” and “black” OOooooH!
When I said “blacks already vote for Democrats”, did I say anything Oliver hasn’t said for years?
How will there ever be a discussion about race, when there is only one “approved” point of view?
Are you saying there are no white liberals? Are you saying there’s no such thing as White Guilt?
Are you saying that blacks don’t vote 90% or more for Democrats in national elections?
I think you can forget about your last false accusation that I was a racist, and move on.
And this one won’t wash, either.
