Bush nominated Harriet Miers to the highest court in the land as a sop to one of his most loyal cronies, but apparently the lightweight championed by Hugh Hewitt can’t even handle a couple of aggressive Democrats.
Miers, a longtime Bush loyalist whose nomination to the Supreme Court was withdrawn in 2005 as a result of conservative opposition, led an office that will oversee legal clashes that could erupt if Democrats aggressively use their new subpoena power. Bush advisers inside and outside the White House concluded that she is not equipped for such a battle and that the president needs someone who can strongly defend his prerogatives.
She didn’t have the legal chops when it came to the important issue, white collar crime.
OT, does naybody know how to get off TownHall’s mailing list? There is no “Unsuscribe” option anywhere.

Yah, thats what i thought.
All in all, probably a good move on Bush’s part. Meirs was known as a meticulous administrator.
The Bush administration has taken full advantage of a pliant, Republican Congress over the last six years. They may well be facing some tough fights during the rest of Bush’s term in office.
“You’re not a wartime consigliere, Harriet. We need a wartime consigliere.”
Sigh.
Would that W were as competent as Michael Coreleone.
Or even Fredo Corleone.
Because of the Fredo remark, you don’t deserve this, but because I’m a good guy, I’m giving you this:
