How? Well, the US accounts for half of all military spending in the world. It would be suicide for any country to attack the US military. A big military like China might resist an invasion with all the other advantages of playing defense, but otherwise, the US will win any other direct confrontation. So, if you're pissed off at the US, what do you do? Attack it without attacking the military. The real issue is that there are folks pissed at the US. You deal with them and their issues. Some are legitimate, like the Israeli-Palestinian situation. Some are just wankers, like Osama bin Laden. The wankers piggyback onto the legitimate issues and get others to agree with them as a result.
