NFL Thoughts

I cant stress this enough – you have not seen the NFL on TV until you’ve seen it in high def. I’ve had it for one week now and every American should have it. (side note: Lord of The Rings looks great in HD, but it’s still not a very good movie)

The Redskin’s season is way past over but they looked pretty decent yesterday. I can’t shake the feeling that if Campbell had been the starter they’d be closer to 9-7 than 5-9, but either way I’ll once again be needlessly optimistic about next year, more so if they don’t get any big name free agents. I wonder if Ladell Betts current streak of 100yd+ games worries Clinton Portis?

Terrell Owens should be thrown out of the league. It’s not going to happen for the most recent incident, but the guy brings an NBA-level of thuggishness to the NFL and is poison. It’s no surprise that he’s a Cowboy, is it?

Since the subject is football, I just have to point out that the Steelers still have a shot. All that has to happen is they have to win their last two games, Denver and J-ville have to lose their last two, and the Jets have to lose one of theirs. Piece of cake!

One for the septum in 2007! You gotta believe!

It’s also no surprise that Allen Iverson is a 76er. Or that Ron Artest is a King. Or that Albert Haynesworth is a Titan. Pacman Jones spit on that Tennessee State girl; ha ha, oh those Titans! What else can you expect from them.

What about all those years the Raiders were considered America’s thugs extraordinaire? Now I’ve heard commentators talking about the Denver Broncos as a “dirty team.” John Elway’s team! But it’s really no surprise, is it?

Heaven forbid we should talk about Sean Taylor of your beloved Redskins spitting on Michael Pittman. And now he beat a guy up and threatened him with a gun. Hey, he’s a Redskin, that’s just what they do.

Yes, T.O. does some stupid, ugly things. He’s a primma donna, and Jerry Jones seems to attract those kinds of guys (Keyshawn Johnson, Neon Deion, Michael Irvin, how far back to you want to go). But it’s not just T.O., and it’s not just the Cowboys.

  3. Yeah but when it comes to the Cowboys its okay if I’m irrational :) Jerry Jones’ team are the earthbound emissaries of Satan, is that so hard to comprehend?

But really, America’s TeamTM needs to come down to earth now and then to commiserate with us unwashed masses.

By no means do I condone what T.O. did to DeAngelo Hall. You or I do it in public, and it’s assault.

Still, I have to harken back to last January’s playoff game between Washington and Tampa Bay when Sean Taylor of the Skins was kicked out of the game for spitting in the face of Michael Pittman (in full view of referee Mike Carey no less). I recall that Oliver went apoplectic over the ejection.

Since Oliver’s on record for advocating the banishment of T.O. from the NFL, will he also urge Sean Taylor (who also happens to be an ex-Miami Hurricane) to be kicked out of the league as well. Afterall, it’s not like last January was the first time Taylor had ever been accused of spitting on an opponent.

Not to mention at least TO’s never been arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm.

Spitting is a proud NFL tradition. Google will reveal many many such incidents.

There’s just no question that some professional athletes are a brick short of a load. How about Tank Johnson carrying around a small armory with him. Like if there’s a drive-by he’s going to be able to use all those to defend himself.

The problem is that these guys have the money to actually take action on their mentally-disturbed impulses; and as professional athletes, they are usually paid obscene amounts of money. They are also under a media spotlight; if Sean Taylor or Pacman Jones aren’t top athletes, they barely get a mention on the local news. So these “incidents” get blown up into big stories, and we can all argue about the thuggishness of sports today (as opposed to the golden days of yesteryear when good sportsmanship was the rule).

    You’re dead to me now.

That at least makes two of us who were absolutely BORED Of The Rings.

I was upset over the ejection because it just didn’t look like he had spit. A guy spits for real and he should be kicked out. I am a total homer for the Redskins but I also expect better of them than say the Cowboys.

And LOTR just goes on and on and on. It’s like a beautiful painting of a boring subject.
