Who’s Got The Heat?

Republicans

“There is no George W. Bush in the field,” says one neutral GOP strategist, referring both to Bush’s wide appeal in 2000 and his conservative views. That worries some on the right.

“Right now, we’re very concerned about it,” says Paul Weyrich, chairman and CEO of the conservative Free Congress Foundation. Adds Charmaine Yoest, vice president for communications at the Family Research Council, “There is a certain lack of excitement at the moment.”

Democrats

For all of Sen. Clinton’s poll and money advantages, the fact remains that Obama is the candidate party insiders are excited about. It’s the campaign everyone wants a part of. Nobody is saying the same for Clinton — her campaign is looking like the most corporate, oldest and blandest since Mondale in ‘84. Great campaign team? Sure … for the 1992 Presidential race. There are plenty of generals, but who wants to be a footsoldier for HRC? And speaking of wars, the longer the U.S. remains in Iraq, the better for Obama, who was aganst it from the start and has a plan to get us out.

My wife sez Obama should pick Hillary as his VP–to keep right-wing assassins at bay.

  2. Gore/Clark ‘08

    (or possibly Gore/Obama)

  3. vwcat says:

Obama is my senator and he is doing to the nation what he already did to this state – see what a really smart, charismatic, insightful and energized person can do.
    Run, Barak, Run

  4. Marty says:

Quaker- is that why the President is still alive? Cheney keeps left wing assassins at bay?

(Although there has been plenty of lefty fantacising about the assassination of President Bush and Cheney having a heart attack.)

As much as I think Obama is too green, he IS electable.

And he’s polarizing in a “good” way.

Many millions of whites will not vote for him simply because he’s black. I’m not saying every one of those are racists, but lets be real here. A huge chunk of this country believes that only Americans of European descent are “real” Americans and that this country “belongs” to them.

But in my eyes that’s a GOOD thing. There will be a clear division of Americans that want to move our country towards the future and those that want to keep it anchored in the “good old days”. I believe that Obama won’t only “preach to the choir”. He’ll actually campaign in red states to get his message out.

I believe he’ll trigger the biggest voter registration surge amongst minorities (black, latino, asian, middle-eastern) in this countries history. Combine this with Democratic-led voter-protection acts (which had BETTER be coming!) and it spells victory for Obama.

Of course this all hinges on him taking good, solid progressive positions the move toward the center. (But DO NOT BEND on a woman’s right to choose! Be pro-life, not anti-abortion. Support greater contraception efforts to reduce unwanted pregnancies. Don’t bow to the right on that issue.)

Another issue that will arise is the threats to his life that will no doubt come from what Dr. King called “our sick white broters”. There simply WILL be far right-wingers who’ll advocate killing the first black president. Federal authorities will have to come up with a comprehensive effort to identify and nullify those threats.

Marty: quite possibly, yes. Black comedy, look it up.

What ya think…Patriot Act? Tapping phone lines? Reading internet mail?

Just curious as to what form you think those comprehensive efforts will take when it suits your purpose..

I bet it will involve WARRANTS, something this President doesn’t think he needs.

  11. StarkyLuv says:

Don’t humor pedro. He is really not worth getting involved with.

And yes, it would involve warrants. White Supremecist groups are already being monitored on the internet or being straight infiltrated(through WARRANTS).

And phone lines have been tapped for decades…with WARRANTS.

President Bush doesn’t want to use warrants because he doesn’t want anyone to actually know who he’s listening to. Namely political enemies and anyone else he deems a “threat” (read: people who don’t agree with him.)

But it’s funny watching pedro weakly trying to catch “dirty liberals” being hypocritical. We like things done under the law with warranted supervision. We don’t like clandestine spying on American citizens where noone knows who’s being spied on or for what reason.

  12. Marty says:

I didn’t know that the Democratic Underground could be considered “Black Comedy.”

    Interesting.

Or were you just being a racist Nimrod?

Yes, Nimrod- that last line was a joke. Another form of “Black Comedy. “

But lately many conservatives are telling us that Bush has not governed conservatively enough and that’s why no one likes him now.

I will confess that the idea of President Cheney gives me good reason to hope for Mr. Bush’s continued good health.
