History Bites Back

1:09 pm EST December 3rd, 2006 | News | 15 Comments

It sure seems like the Hadley and Rumsfeld memos are the beginnings of this generation’s Pentagon Papers. Secret documents detailing the parallel, less rosy history of an unpopular war. Note that the administration hasn’t made a hue and cry about the documents leaking (though their reliable conservative stooges do) nor do they dispute their veracity, in fact they’ve all but acknowledged them as true.

There is a history of the Iraq war that hasn’t been written yet, and it differs from the numerous books already out there in that it will tell the full details of the mistakes were made, the lies that were covered up, and the damage to American security and reputation committed by this administration and its cronies.

Hopefully they won’t be completely forgotten by everyone who might be able to do anything about them, like the Downing Street one which more or less proved that we were lied into war.

The surprising thing that is emerging is Bush’s autonomy of
    stupidity. There ought’a be
a monument made to him similar to the rock-headed wonders of Easter Island.

In a strange way, I found the Runsfeld memo reassuring. At some level, while the Bushies lie to us (in fact, almost nothing they tell us is true, so much so that if Tony Snow told a reporter that the sky was blue, the reporter should go outside and check), they need some internal honesty. All I ever got from them was that they believed their horseshit that Iraq was wonderful and sweet and any problems were brought into the country by agents of bin Laden. At least at some level, someone had to acknowledge that Iraq is a disaster.

  4. I think as it all continues to unfold, Iraq will be seen for what I basically believe it is – a massive business deal. It has zero to do with security, nor do they care about America’s reputation, or Americans in general. It’s a business deal.

After Bush unceremoniously kicked Rumsfeld to the curb, expect more memos highlighting the former SecDef’s foresight to come out.

Sure. Sure. I remember when you guys were crowing about Bush’s medals doing him in. Everything is the next big gotcha!

  7. S says:

pedugger, what were you thinking when Rumsfeld resigned so obviously one day following the election?

  8. Dugger says:

    S,

Does your mommy know you’re at the keyboard?

Have you ever had a mature comtemplative thought in your life?

  9. Nimrod Gently says:

Dugger, it’s the kettle for you. Something about affirmative action?

  10. S says:

  11. Dugger says:

Nimmer, You’re going to have stop using those Limey colloquialisms. This is an All American site and we don’t talke kindly to furriner phrases.

  12. S says:

LoL … an all American site? It’s on the Internets, pedugger, where the whole world can join the conversation.

  13. Dugger says:

Why good golly genius ‘S’, I believe you are right. This is the Internet. Yup. Yup. It shure is.
Now have a glass of milk and a cookie. I think its time for one little pretend Internet poster to go beddy bye. You can listen to the adults again tomorrow.

  14. Nimrod Gently says:

“Affirmative Action” is an American phrase. The pot calling the kettle black is familiar to both cultures.

Awwwwww, pedugger. Pleased to see the AA meetings are going well. The drunken posts, pardon me, spews, are declining. Good for you!
