The always idiotic Dennis Prager gets his panties in a twist because an elected official who is a Muslim won’t bow down to the haters.

    Prager is an idiot.

  2. BD says:

If given the opportunity, I would probably ask to be sworn in on a copy of the complete works of William Shakespeare; as it would mean much more to me than any of the religious texts available.

  3. A stack of Action Comics for me.

Re: Prager’s arguments that everyone must be required to swear on a Bible whether they believe in the book or not, and that not one American politician has failed to swear on the Bible:

    Das ist nicht einmal falsch.

(“That is not even wrong”, German idiom for something so ridiculously off-kilter that calling it merely “wrong” just isn’t sufficient.)

  5. Quaker in a Basement says:

Note to JWG: This is what a “Christianist” looks like, and yes, I know that Prager is Jewish.

  6. Quaker in a Basement says:

If there are any Quakers in Congress (to tell the truth, I’m not even sure myself–somebody told me the other day about one), they probably would pass on swearing an oath on the Bible.

Our people will generally “affirm” rather than swear and many will pass on the hand-on-the-Bible thing.

  7. rew says:

Franklin Pierce was a Quaker, and he affirmed – he didn’tswear on a bible.

  8. nihilistic_disintegration says:

Damn, isn’t it fun to watch the overzealous right-wing I Don’t Mind A Theocracy As Long As It’s A Jesus Theocracy crowd piss all over themselves over a Muslim in Congress?

Do you suppose a single one of the Bible-thumping America haters have paused for even one second to think that if they hadn’t spent all their time trying to weaken the wall between Church and State, they wouldn’t have to worry about a Muslim in Congress, because there would be a (boing!) separation of church and state?

    Idiots.

For once, I agree with the consensensus of OW.com readers.

Prager’s one of the biggest reasons why I no longer consider myself a member of the GOP. The Evangelicals have taken over the party.

And if I ever was elected, I’d opt for a stack of Sports Illustrateds.

  10. Lee Larson says:

Never mind the religious crap and never mind which religious comic book they’re using to swear someone in. #Why not have all public officials swear upon the US Constitution, which is what they’re in office for in the first place!
