Congressional Black Caucus: On The Wrong Side

6:43 pm EST November 28th, 2006 | Politics | 6 Comments

What is up with the Congressional Black Caucus? Apparently more so than any other of the Democratic coalition, the CBC favors the old and in power over the good. They supported Alcee Hasting’s nomination when everyone else said it was dead in the water (it is), and made noise about Rep. Pelosi stripping crooked William Jefferson of his committee assignments. Now, the CBC is among the biggest donors to Jefferson’s re-election race to the tune of $5,000. Shouldn’t the CBC, if it were true to its purpose, be supporting his challenger Karen Carter (like the Louisiana Dems do)?

  1. They supported Alcee Hasting’s nomination when everyone else said it was dead in the water….

“Everyone else”? You said nothing about it when I brought it up in several threads, which I take to mean that you were waiting to see which way the political winds were going to blow on the crook’s chairmanship. Righteous way to take a stand and speak truth to power, huh?

Cue frameone, who will be back to explain what he meant when he argued that Hasting’s nomination would have been completely justified, since he was next in line and, besides, wasn’t such a bad fellow, after all.

Turns out however, he’s not only a crook, but a loon:

“Sorry, haters, God is not finished with me yet.”

Ahh, its going to go to Sanford Bishop anyway. Bishop is a black moderate from middle Georgia (his district includes a large military facility) and will be yet another sign of the left’s being left out in the cold by the Democratic leadership.

And I told you it was going to happen! And you ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait till the new leadership decides to stay the course in Iraq.

Its 1968 all over again – and YOU ARE THERE.

Turns out however, he’s not only a crook, but a loon:

    Wait.

Shouters spend two solid weeks ripping the man’s integrity. And a nine-word response to them makes him a loon?

    Haw!

  4. Er, QIAB, your phrase “ripping his integrity” infers some lack of fair play.

Hastings is a crook. What integrity, pray tell, does he have to rip?

I guess Nancy Pelosi’s a “hater,” too, since she voted to impeach Hastings. And I guess the QIAB defintion of a shouter is anyone who points out the painful truth about a Democrat.

  5. Dugger says:

    So is John Conyers.

I personally needed time to form an opinion on Hastings, which led me away from supporting him. Unlike the CBC, though, I don’t WORK IN GOVERNMENT and don’t have ‘pull’ or thousands of dollars to donate. I want people who have these things to have opinions faster than I do. Get it?
