Not allowing access roads into forests prevents dousing fires, and getting rid of dead wood, trees too close together etc.
Futility in dousing fires leads to more loss of forestry than a few roads...

So has anybody ever told Mr Redstate what state the Sierra Nevada are in?

Maybe he needs to change it to Redcounty; that would be closer to Western political reality.

Or maybe he does know, and the terror of encountering two Democratic female Jewish senators has kept him from ever venturing out here to see what the mountains really look like. I mean, that's a very very pretty picture, but its spirit is European Romantic through and through, and it's not a lot like California. Or anyplace else.

Which reminds me: mountains that dwarf the Alps? It takes nothing from my admiration for my native state (I grew out of thinking that way about 50 years ago) that there several more mountains in the Alps that top Mount Whitney than there are in the Sierra.

But you see, he has a true Red State attitude, all the worst of America, "Our mountains are better -- and bigger, even though they aren't -- than your mountains."

Dug, what about Bush pressers, or Bush speaking engagements, or the College Republican events? It seems to me that liberals are more open to dissent than conservatives... I think you are kidding yourself to believe otherwise.

z,

If you are talking soley OW.com: yes, free interchange. If you are speaking in general, what with speech codes and talk being outlawed that makes groups feel uncomfortable, I disagree.

Dugger, you are certainly more free to shoot off your mouth here than I am at Redstate or Instapundit. OW even allows people like Dr. Pedro to claim brazen untruths like that which he's posted above.

Whatever your beefs might be with progressives or liberals, it is certainly not related to our allowance of alternative ideas.

Pedro, you are a very dishonest fellow.

Here's why:

1) Republicans are the people who believe that golf ponds are wetlands:

http://www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/columnists/conservation/article/0,13199,1179434,00.html

2) Republicans are the people trying to sell off National Parks:

http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB113781040852752707-r9KilxW_oOS9WxhphxPs6nMy0sk_20070121.html?mod=blogs

3) Republicans are the people who think logging makes forests healthier:

http://www.sierraclub.org/forests/fires/healthyforests_initiative.asp

4) Republicans are the people who deny global warming:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/30/politics/main580915.shtml

I have no comment on whether you as a person are quietly doing your part for conservation. That is your decision as a person, not a party.

As a party, you guys are certainly not environmentally friendly.

Hey "s"

How does

All they do now is type an occasional "nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah" post then retreat back into the cave."

Bullshit, pedugger. You don't like the answers/responses you're hearing and you know you have to continue listening to them because the American people took away the Republicans' bullshit bullhorn.

The lack of cocky, arrogant 'we know what we're talking about ... you Democrats have no idea what you're talking about" responses from pedugger post-midterm election is obvious.

no I type quite a bit more than Nyah, nyah, but in response I get no sensible answers just tripe like " Don't worry we'll take care of it..." typical lefty-speak for "we have no idea what we are doing".

Having built quite a few miles of trails in the rockies and the sierras with the sierra club, I know a thing or two about them. The constant infighting and radical left agenda makes them almost impotent in spite of their size.

Check out this quieter and more effective organization to get an idea of what I mean about the republicans putting their money where their mouths are...

Pedro, I hate to break your bubble, but it is the crazy liberals like Ted Turner and the Nature Conservancy who are buying up parcels of land that will "inher in the people as a whole" to use a Teddy Roosevelt term. It is people like former Congresscritter Dick Pombo who wish to turn National Parks over to logging and mining interests.

Don't worry about it Pedo, we'll take care of it. You don't worry your pretty little head over it. The time for liars is over. The time for failure is over. The adults are back in charge. Keep whistling into the wind all you want Pedo. Nobody buys your shit.

I wonder who might know about the Sierras?

Eureka!

Latern, the documents are right next to the box marked "Rose Law Firm"....

But George, if we tear down all the dams where are we going to get all our renewable electricity from?

See you liberals can never actually SEE the forest, only the individual trees...

Much as with a failed War, Treason and War Crimes, most Republicans believe lying to make their side appear correct on an issue is better then any admission of fact.

Naming a gift to the logging industry the "Healty Forests Initiative" did not make any forest healthy.

"I am not sure why the Republicans think that LYING about preservation some how is better than actually doing it."

I think their just so comfortable lying as a defense, they forgot how weak it makes them on any issue.

If I'm not mistaken this valley was submerged underwater when a dam was constructed in the 20's.

The liberal pinkos are trying to tear down the dam and restore the valley.

Well, they have two years to get the pardons prepared and the villas bought in the South of France and Paraguay. The rat lines and safe houses are being prepared.

It won't take much digging to get the goods on the Neos. The boxes of the best stuff have been stored discretely for some years now. The IBM Selectric on which Karl did in Rather, it is in a storage bin somewhere in Anacostia.

Living at the Bush level in America is good if you have to eat a shit sandwich once in a while. The more bread you have the less shit you taste.
