Massive Violence, People Burned Alive, Just Don’t Call It Civil War

The freedom train keeps rolling on.

Shiite militiamen grabbed six Sunnis as they left Friday worship services, doused them with kerosene and burned them alive near Iraqi soldiers who did not intervene, police Capt. Jamil Hussein said.

The savage revenge attack for Thursday’s slaying of 215 people in the Shiite Sadr City slum occurred as members of the Mahdi Army militia burned four mosques, and several homes while killing an unknown number of Sunni residents in the once-mixed Hurriyah neighborhood of Baghdad.

WhereTF is FrankD and his vituperative exhalations on the absurdity of civil war as a possible result of pandora’s box being opened by the Idiot Bastard Son? Pfeh!

  2. Quaker in a Basement says:

Where have you been, cleo? Frank got into a huff and drove out of here months ago. Who knew he had a huff-driver’s license?

  3. frameone says:

Trust us, you don’t want to know where Frank has gotten off to …

  4. Clint says:

Frank turned off his computer, threw away the empty Cheetos bags and Mountain Dew bottles, drove down to his local recruiting office and signed up for a year hitch in Iraq.

Oh, and I recently bought the Brooklyn Bridge for five bucks. The guy asked for ten, but I was able to talk him down.

  5. Semanticleo says:

I’ve been irritating the Red (change from Blue) Meanies over at JustOneMinute. They seemed to need me more. Too bad Frank didn’t hang around for the REAL revolution.

  6. Jeff Poulin says:

The Iraqi soldiers stood by and did nothing!! Whoa! We should leave Iraq! Those Iraqi soldiers should have used their guns to put out the kerosene fires. I mean its common sense. From this point forward our troops should not even attept to use their guns to combat fires. that goes for grenades and and anti-tank weapons too. Just more proof that cutting and running from Iraq is the right thing to do. Also we know that the best way to end a civil war if you will call it that, is to not give any support to anyone. It’s logic people! Thanks for enlightening me.

  7. Nimrod Gently says:

You were never the smartest kid in class, were you?

  8. Jeff says:

    How nice.
Actually I’m running a 3.6 in college. So, I think I’m doing alright. How did you do in class?

  9. Jeff says:

Did you have anything useful to say?
Because you aren’t a complete failure no matter what your wife and parents tell you. You did manage to divert a question that you couldn’t answer.

  10. Marty says:

Here’s a hint for you Oliver. Look up every story where Captain Jamil Hussein has been quoted over the last two years.

He seems to be the only person in all of Iraq who seems to be able to confirm this incident and others like it.

But I know this is the type of news that you just love to hearand repeat, so keep looking for stories where this guy is quoted.

(Hint- this incident likely didn’t happen- at least nobody else seems to be able to confirm it.)

  11. Nimrod Gently says:

I ask because you’re putting two and two together and making twenty-seven. If you’re doing that deliberately it’s merely idiotic, if this is really how you think then it’s not exactly indicative of great intelligence.

And as far as I’m concerned 3.6 could mean anything.

  12. Jeff says:

A 3.6 when referring to college would generally speak about a GPA, nimrod. A GPA stands for grade point average, ranging from 0-4.0. If you need more information I can explain it to you very slowly.

Now since you say I put two and two together and made twenty-seven, I am sure being the scholar that you are have already planned on defending your stance. So in what way to I do this?

  13. BD says:

Saying you have a 3.6/4.0 means absolutely nothing in terms of this conversation. It says only slightly more in terms of your smarts. For all we know, you managed a 3.6 because you’re an ace at Psych 100, Introduction to Film Studies 104, and Leisure Studies 108.

Now you could go ahead and give us a list of your incredibly advanced particle physics classes, but (a) that is also besides the point, and (b) we don’t know you and you can’t prove it. And (c), that wouldn’t matter either in this conversation. So give this up. Nobody cares. If you have anything to add other than histrionic sarcasm, go ahead and post that. Or if you really believe that the only thing soldiers should be trained to do is use their guns, then maybe you should spend a few days auditing ROTC.

Marty’s right that the story needs corroboration. However, reports indicate that the state Iraqi police and military have been corrupted almost from inception, and are rife with sectarians, Baathist infiltrators, and basic incompetence. So while one cannot corroborate this particular story as yet, the underlying fact is that there is a severe infrastructure problem that thus far nobody has found a viable solution for.

  14. Hey, Jeff, I’ve got a great idea. Since all the Iraqi troops need is more support, why don’t you go to your local recruiter’s office and sign up? I’m sure Bush’s crusade could use someone with your intellect and wit.

  15. Jeff says:

Well, actually, I am interning at the GAO, doing a useful job for the government. You will probably disagree but there are more ways to help your country than to join the military. Right now I am making sure that the economy runs smoothly, which I personally find to be an important job.

  17. S says:

    Interning?

Jeff, what’s your ‘useful government’ solution for the ending the invasion clusterfuck?

  18. S says:

Wait, the INTERN is in charge of ensuring the economy is running smoothly.

ped “no, WE are the deciders” ugger would have something to say about that.

  19. jeff says:

If you think that me helping those that help the highest up ha nothing to do with the economy, that is fine. I do research mainly on South Pacific markets and their volitilities. It may not be the most fun, but it is essential. Do I think that another person would do the same job? yes. Would they do as well? I doubt it. There is a reason I got picked after three interviews.
    But I digress.
Well ending the invasion debacle (I prefer to use language that might be suitable if someone is reading this with thier young children). There is no debacle. We went into thier with the intent of spreading democracy. We had faulty intelligence saying that there were WMDs. Bush thought there were, the intelligence communities thought there were, Bush had a reason to go into Iraq besides spreading democracy. We toppled a tyranical leader, we have had a successful election cycle. We have seen a Constitution ratified. Try telling me that the Iraqis are getting the short end of the stick. Yes there are deaths. Yes, there are problems, but if we stay the course, the country will thrive. Image when the Union looked like they were being pushed into Richmond, and were losing the civil war, should they have abandoned their belief and let the Conferderates win? No. Any person more than an idiot would say no.
The same is true for Iraq, times are tough (although far less tough than the civil war) but that makes it the worst time to surrender and cut and run.
This war will be decisive as to whether extremists topple governments in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, or if democracy prevails. If democracy prevails everyone wins. If we leave and the Middle East crumbles into ruins controlled by militias, it will by my generation’s legacy.

  20. S says:

Jeff, have you or any immediate family member served any active military duty?

  21. jeff says:

**edit, I made a couple of typos.**
As to ending the invasion “debacle” (I prefer to use language that might be suitable if someone is reading this with thier young children). There is no debacle. Bush thought there were, the intelligence communities thought there were, Bush had a reason to go into Iraq besides stopping Hussien. 22. Jeff says:

    S,
Yes I do, I will give you a short list.

My great-grandfather fought for the Germans in the first world war

My two grandfathers fought with the Canadian Army in WWII.

My brother was in Germany until 2000

  23. S says:

We don’t care about typos, Jeff. We care about having to robotically read Republican talking points that, from the results of the mid-term elections, are clearly no longer relevant to the majority of American people … i.e. the people The Decider is supposed to be working FOR.

  24. S says:

Thank you. Are any immediate family members currently serving active military duty in Iraq and have any immediate family members lost their lives serving active military duty in Iraq?

  25. Jeff says:

Your post was asking in the past tense.

The answer to the second is no. However, my best friend died from a gunshot in Iraq. That was not a fun experience. Whilst it isn’t close to a family member, it still hurt badly to see someone that young die. But he died doing what he loved and for what he loved. He emailed me saying that he was looking forward to coming home and sharing the great news and progress from Iraq. That never happened. But I am proud and his family is proud of what he did.

Would my opinion have had anymore validity if I had told you that a close family member in Iraq? I would doubt it. You are just looking for a way to discredit my opinion.

Do you agree with abortion? Has anyone in your family gotten one?
Do you agree with euthenasia? Has anyone in your family been euthinized?

Questions like that you asked me are pure non-sense used by the left because they have no arguement. They can’t prove the point, and they can’t disprove the oposition’s point. The next best thing is to disprove the opposition as a valid source, This is nonsense, but many people actually try it as you did, and I am sure many people actually believe the results. I would encourage anyone interested in real debate to not attack the oppents credibility even when they are offering a credible point. If someone lies, or spews Al Sharpton-esque lies and rhetoric, then attack the point. But unless the debate is about the person, don’t turn it into an ad homonim attack.

  26. S says:

Thank you for your response, Jeff.

You’ve made several enormous assumptions about me and my opinions on the basis of my 2 questions and leapt quickly to defend your point of view.

I never suggested your opinion is less valid because you have not lost an immediate family member in active military service in Iraq.

  27. Thanks, Jeff. That was a whole lot of wasted English, when all you needed to say was “yeah, I’m a hypocritical chickenshit asshole who’s content to let others kill and die while I stay home and cheer for more.”

Jeff, in this country you have the right to be a hypocritical chickenshit asshole, and you have the right to bleat on (from the safety of your ‘internship’) about how important it is to fight wars.

It’s people like you who are responsible for getting us into Iraq and getting the real soldiers in over their heads. Thanks, Jeff. You’re doing a bang-up job of upholding the family legacy.

  28. Dugger says:

    “hypocritical chickenshit asshole”

    Church Secretary??????

What, Totalitarian Church of the Holy People’s Viper.

  29. S says:

Dugger sobered up!! Good for you! :-)
