Rally up part of the base (that might be lethargic) and bring them into the fight, then lose the party's nomination, then pledge your total allegiance to whatever politician has been chosen behind the scenes by the party appartus. Brownback or Dean will never ever ever be nominated for president. Brownback serves the exact same purpose as guys like Howard Dean do for the democrats.
