This Is Just Weird

Jack Del Rio, Jaguars head coach, wore a suit on the sidelines. Apparently he and Mike Nolan had to get a special exception from the NFL to do so.

Frankly it pales in comparison to Hank “Matriculate The Ball Down The Field” Stram.

My dad had a joke about the parents who were aghast to learn their daughter went to a college where the men and the women matriculated in the same room.

Scobee won my fantasy game for me single-handedly. I honestly think you dress the part. If it suits you(haha…silence) then throw on the suit and if you want to look like a shlub like Belichek then great.
    Oliver,
What happened to the fantasy league?

  3. I want to see a Major League Baseball manager where a suit, ala Connie Mack from back in the day.

I always thought that was pretty sweet. What other sport does the coach where the team uniform? It’s silly if you think about it.

I liked Nolan’s reasoning behind wanting to wear a suit. It did give him an authoritarian look reminiscient of Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi.

The NFL should find a way to work out some agreement with Reebok as to allow more coaches to dress up if they choose to do so.

I will not be satisfied until Belichick shows up on the sideline wearing the checkered fedora, a la Bear Bryant.

To me, the only sport where it looks natural for the coach/manager to wear a uniform is baseball. It would look silly for a guy in suit to walk out to the mound for a pitching change.

However, can anybody picture Jeff Van Balki walking around in shorts and a tank-top?

In addition, the NFL coaches look absurd wearing hoodies and warm-up suits.

  7. WhiteWhale says:

Lets wait until Belechek is in the same league as Bear Bryant before we let him wear the houndstooth hat(checkered fedora).

The NBA coaches all wear suits and ties. The suit is handy for throwing at refs or into the stands.

The NFL should let coaches wear whatever the hell they want, within reason. If you want to evoke Lombardi and Landry go for it (I note that both coaches who did so WON their games). If you want to look like a schlub in a team hoodie that’s OK too. Whatever the guy who pays your checks will allow.

    Just my opinion.

Maybe Reebok should start making suits.

  10. I’m holding out for the first coach to wear a Jack Abramoff style hat and trench coat. Coach Gibbs?
