At least Gibson isn't a racist like the Jewish comedian Michael "Kramer" Richards.

Somehow mrpedro took a big leap from what I wrote to return to his antiliberal meme. I don't think anyone who laughed at Gibson's name in the credits thought less of the Leonard Cohen film. Mel's name just gave them a good laugh because it was only a couple of days after his run-in with the Jewish cop. Unlike mrpedro, I don't presume to know anything about the politics of those people laughing in the dark theater. One thing I did notice though was that most of the audinece was older than me, and I'm 50.

"One of the great things about art is that the person who produces is relatively
anonymous..."

You just can't help it can you, pedro? If you think you can take a cheap shot at a liberal it doesn't matter how much of a stupid moron you have to make of yourself, you'll take that shot.

Tell me the last work of art that really moved you but left you totally unmoved to know who made it.

Oh yeah? Well, they laughed at the evil genius of DW Griffith too.

I can't wait for Apocolypto. It will be like the release of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. There were three people in the theater, me, Ernie the Emo, and PayDay. We were all well medicated. Even if I have to sit in the Apocolypto opening alone, I will get just all Meso and stuff. I believe that Mel is going to end up in that pantheon of great directors that includes the likes of Lina Wertmuller and Allen Smithy.

I understand that Mel has a hot property that will be titled Rivers of Babylon - you know a Diaspora milieu, weeping, harps in the willows and all that.

OK, back to work. Second whole week of the new Democratic mandate is in play. I think somebody gonna beyotch slap somebody this week.

just proves how deep the bigotry and hatred goes in the liberal community.

One of the great things about art is that the person who produces is relatively anonymous...could be white/black etc, but the work can be judged on its merits alone. Buma shows a great example of bigotry at work....it was good until the folks saw who made it....

A few months ago I saw the movie I'm Your Man about Leonard Cohen, a good film that had a lot of the audience sticking around for the credits. When Mel Gibson's name appeared as a producer people laughed out loud at the surprise and the irony.

Isn't Apocolypto in some pre-Columbian native language?

OK, I can understand how some people would endure "The Passion of the Christ" in Aramaic--it was a retelling of the central story of Christianity.

What reason will potential ticket buyers have to put up with it this time?

Mel's personal problems, plus a language nobody understands will make this a pretty tough sell.

Well as one of the poop flingers who goes to those Sandler films I don't think I'll be seeing it.

But the movie also looks pretty expensive for such a weird subject.

And whether or not the movie is a 'flop' is relative. Distributors and studios care more about profitability. A movie doesn't have to be a blockbuster in order for it to be profitable.

'The Patriot' only starred Mel Gibson. He didn't direct or produce.

As for movie audiences booing, we're talking about people who possibly pay to see Adam Sandler movies, so one has to consider the source.

If the Passion had come out after Gibson's tirade, it would not have made the money it did. And this new film, unless you've seen a huge untapped market for Mayan movies with subtitles the same way the Christian market has historically bee underservered, it won't do so hot.

I liked Braveheart, and Patriot was one of the most manipulative movies ever.

Mel Gibson may be a total douche, but I'm actually quite excited to see a movie set during the Maya collapse. And frankly, I think Mel's a pretty good director. Passion was fairly ridiculous, and Patriot wasn't good, but who doesn't like Braveheart? But yeah, the trailer definitely got a laugh when I saw it last month.

Yea, you're probably right. I mean, that is what everyone said about the "Passion", and man were they right! I don't think Mel cleared a billion dollars on THAT movie....

That guy is doomed to obscurity, no question about it...I just hope he doesn't end up on welfare or something...
