I don't think anyone who laughed at Gibson's name in the credits thought less of the Leonard Cohen film. Mel's name just gave them a good laugh because it was only a couple of days after his run-in with the Jewish cop. Unlike mrpedro, I don't presume to know anything about the politics of those people laughing in the dark theater. There were three people in the theater, me, Ernie the Emo, and PayDay. We were all well medicated. Even if I have to sit in the Apocolypto opening alone, I will get just all Meso and stuff. I believe that Mel is going to end up in that pantheon of great directors that includes the likes of Lina Wertmuller and Allen Smithy.
