Of course he had a right to ask for ID. Even if he was the Grand Wizard of the KKK, he could ask her to identify herself. She didn’t have her pin or whatever it is that IDs her as a congressperson. It doesn’t matter if he knew who she was or not. If she had beef, she could’ve written him up in a formalized report through proper channels. She could’ve called a press conference to address the problem. But she decided to get “hood with it”.

I’ve worked my entire adult life in classified and/or restricted sites. These guards get to know people by face, some they don’t. Doesn’t matter. If you’re asked to identify yourself, you do it. You don’t snap and get all loud and an indignant and strike an officer. That doesn’t make you a “strong black woman”. That makes you an ignorant asshole.

Again, I knew someone would come in and claim that the new congressman is “selling out” or “dancing for the man.”. Conducting yourself in a dignified manner worthy of being a Congressperson of the United States isn’t “dancing”. It’s being a mature, rational adult.

I’m guessing that an altercation with a police officer who was merely doing his job would qualify as a “breach of the peace.”

The only similarities between the old Republicans and the new breed seem to be a desire for smaller government–but while the old guard wanted less bureaucracy, the new guard wants a government so small that it can be run by three people–Bush, Cheney, and Karl Rove.

I especially like the Rove story. That’s how a diplomat dishes the dirt. Johnson has very clearly said exactly what you understood: Rove found his unseen caller more important than an incoming black legislator. And yet, he slipped the knife in so quietly that no one could ever find fault.

you people dance for others approval and say things because they make you sound reasonable. all they make you sound is weak. Strength isn’t a political position, it’s something you exude or you don’t. You’ll never look strong when you’re throwing your own under the bus.

As a whole, the Democrats are becoming less unreasonable.

For the record, about the only thing that article gets right about McKinney is that she was “combative.” The fawning over kiss-ass Johnson is laughable. I especially like this part:

It’s a good thing Georgia traded someone who opposed the liars and criminals in the Rethug party for someone who will “take [Bush] at his word.” If Hank Johnson is any indication of this new Democratic revolution (and I sincerely hope he is not), then the new boss ain’t much more than a spineless doormat for the old boss.
