Allow me to refresh your memory: James Tobin, northeast field director for the NRSCC and New England regional director for the Bush campaign, convicted (not indicted) for federal crimes committed in his official capacity.

Ken Blackwell–in his official capacity–tossed voter registration forms because they were printed on the wrong kind of paper.

Katherine Harris–well, you know that story. She was the leading official overseeing elections AND a ranking member of the Florida Bush campaign and allowed the Bush recount team to work out of her office.

Even though my Party won “big” last night, it’s clear to me (and I wager most people who actually understand something about computer security) that electronic voting machines that don’t leave a paper trail are a bad idea. Especially ones whose code is not audited by someone other than the vendor.

As for the system working in the future, it seems likely for now. But there’s no universal law that “government of the people, by the people, and for the people” must last forever.

Again, I’m so proud of my nation. We pushed the radicals, racist, homophobes and xenophobes to the side. We smacked the greedy elitists in the mouth. We stomped on the war-mongers nuts.

This is truly incredible. And if Bush tries to buck the Dems too hard in order to appear “tough” he’ll simply be handing over the White House to Dems in 08. The only way for them to keep the White House is for Bush to roll over and show that divided government works.

We, as nation, turned away from fascism. We turned away from military aggression. We turned away from alienating the poor. We turned away from bigotry and ignorance. We turned away from the darkness and faced the light.

Republicans failed to pick up A SINGLE SEAT. Not a congressional one. Not a senatorial one. Not a governorship. NOTHING. This election was the nationwide REJECTION of the neo-conservative movement.

And Democrats didn’t have to stoop the lying, sliming dirty-trickery of the right-wing. They took the high road THE ENTIRE TIME and are now vindicated.
