Like I said a few weeks ago, even in a bad or so-so season, there is always the joy of rooting against the Cowboys–but nothing better than being the one that brings them down.

Nice win. I have to wait until Monday night for my team to play.

“but nothing better than being the one that brings them down.”

I love fans who live vicariously through others.

I’m next week, you’ll be reminded just how much your team still sucks.

I saw the end of that…hokey smokes, Bullwinkle! Congratulations.

I’m sure next week, you’ll be reminded just how much your team still sucks.

At least you did alright on your rugby game today. French referee…mumble grumble…

Well, I was enjoying this blog…

  8. In a great ending like that, it doesn’t reallly matter who wins. Provided, of course, that it’s not Dallas.

Somewhere there’s a rulebook on all competitive sports, and one of the top five or ten rules will be this one:

If you keep giving the other guy chances, eventually he’ll beat you.

Parcells shouldn’t have gone for two. T.O. had two CRITICAL drops, which seems to be a regular thing for him. Vanderjagdt didn’t get the kick up enough. They forgot Sean Taylor could advance the blocked kick, or assumed he was going to go down so it would be decided in overtime; either way, it took a moment before they really started trying to tackle him. Bonehead facemask penalty extended the game by an untimed down, without which Novak isn’t the hero. And finally they gave Novak a second chance to win the game, and he did.

It was pretty clear that Dallas had the better team on the field. But the best team doesn’t always win; Clinton Portis carried the Redskins all day, Brunell was decent, getting Springs back shored up the secondary a crucial little bit. Yesterday was Washington’s day.

Yeah the redskins had a lot of luck yesterday. i don’t don’t think dallas was the better team on the field though, if they were they wouldn’t have made so many mistakes (the same kinds of mistakes the redskins make when they lose games).

  11. liberalrob says:

The Redskins played probably about as well as they can play, and had to get lucky and have multiple chances to win at the end. The Cowboys left points on the field several times, making critical mistakes that they need not have made. That indicates to me that the Cowboys were the better team; they just didn’t play up to their potential.

In the end it probably doesn’t matter. Parcells saved his job last week; this week it was Gibbs’ turn. We saw the AFC title game last night; the Bears got their clocks cleaned by a bad team, so they’ll either collapse or not lose another game all year. The Giants looked terrible but were good enough to gut it out against Houston, a game they should have won going away. Dallas may be a wild card team on talent alone but they won’t get past the second round unless they get their act together and quit making stupid mistakes. If that happens, they very well could make a run this year. With the Iggles in disarray, Giants uneven, Saints guaranteed to choke and Da Bearss possibly choking, the NFC is up for grabs.

“Saved his job” seems an erroneous way of looking at it for these two men. Nobody’s going to fire Gibbs or Parcells. They’ll head back into retirement, first.

As for my Bears; this had better be the last eye-opener they need…after barely beating Minnesota (a team that couldn’t even get more than a field goal against SF) and winning a game against Arizona they had no real claim to, the loss to Miami was the final lesson.

Rex: I love ya, you’ve got great moxie, but PROTECT THE BLOODY BALL.

Of course if Dallas just takes the PAT to go up 7-5 early on in the game they eventually win. NFL coaches are so frequently stupid when it comes to the 2 point conversion. Take the PATs in the first half. Always.

On the other hand, I hate Dallas so it’s fine by me!
