One Question

Michael Steele has a new ad trying to rebut the Cardin ad about how Steele is against stem cell research. The spokesperson in Steele’s ad is his sister, Monica Turner.

The question: how much do you trust the judgement of a woman who married convicted rapist Mike Tyson?

That is all.

Seems to me, if they didn’t want the ad to appear hypocritical, they wouldn’t have MENTIONED THAT SHE HAS MS.

Or swelled the music when she said it.

  2. BD says:

Interesting. The people in charge of editing the footage can’t spell “approved.”

Michael Steele “appoved” this message. I don’t know what to think.

  3. nihilistic_disintegration says:

Wait a minute. Where are all the neocon jerkwads decrying the blatant exploitation of someone’s illness for partisan political gain?

Duggster? Pedro? Where’s your outrage now?

  4. True Blue says:

Not only married Mike Tyson, but shacked up with a major DC drug dealer and had a child out of wedlock with said drug dealer pre Tyson.

I guess Mike was an improvement. At least when they split she got big bucks for a couple of years of abuse. She just got a grand jury appearance out of the drug dealer (except for the bling, of course, but those were the perks of dealing dope).

    Repugnant family values!

  5. dr pedro says:

was she drooling? Incoherent? Did she have a walking, or was she shown shuffling up steps? Did she go off her meds for the ad? Has she been seen relatively normally while being paid for acting on television shows, and then shown with uncontrollable dyskinesias when doing this ad? Did she make it sound as if Cardin being elected was going to make it impossible for anyone with MS to ever be cured?

    Nihilistic? Bueller? Anyone?

    Thought not…

“Not only married Mike Tyson, but shacked up with a major DC drug dealer and had a child out of wedlock with said drug dealer pre Tyson.”

Holy crap, she was shacked up with the multiply-elected and arrested Democratic Mayor of the District of Columbia, Marion Berry! Who knew!

  7. nihilistic_disintegration says:

    Pedro,

So it’s okay for Steele to exploit his sister’s illness for partisan political gain?

  8. I know you have no knowledge of Maryland, Pedro, but Barry is a joke here. And hey, at least his crack smoking was hurting himself alone and he wasn’t diddling kids like some Republicans.

  9. Nimrod Gently says:

Is there anywhere Marion Barry isn’t a joke?

  10. JWG says:

he wasn’t diddling kids like some Republicans

Oliver, you are such a liar. Which Republican, pray tell, touched any children? I know of a Democrat in congress who was doing it, but I’m unaware of any Republicans.

Again…you lie. But unlike the NYT, you won’t offer a correction.

  11. Nimrod Gently says:

If “child” is taken as synonym for “underage”, Mark Foley.

At best it’s a semantic mistake, but it ain’t a lie.

  12. Marty says:

Nimrod- diddling implies touched. Foley, scum that he is, hasn’t been accused of touching anybody. Just emails and IM’s to a seventeen year old page. And he was asked to resign when the leadership learned the worst of it. A good decision. Glad he’s gone.

I think Pedro is referring to the fact that when Democrats found out Gerry Studds actually had sex with the seventeen year old page, not only did he stay in Congress, but he was re-elected five times and was given a committee chairmanship by the Democratic leadership.

  13. Marty says:

Just like the Fox ad is a powerful message, so is this rebuttal. Perhaps you should continue to attack Dr. Turner. It should go over well. (About as well as anyone who has questioned Michael J. Fox.)

  14. factcheck says:

“And he was asked to resign when the leadership learned the worst of it.”

That’s a lie. He resigned hours before Hastert found out.
    http://mediamatters.org/items/200610120005
But when asked in a press conference the day before taking credit for Foley’s resignation “whether the leadership asked Foley to resign,” Hastert had responded: “I think Foley resigned almost immediately upon the outbreak of this information, and so we really didn’t have a chance to ask him to resign.”

  15. Nimrod Gently says:

    Like I said, semantics.

No-one’s attacking Dr. Turner, I’m sure she’s a great person. I’m just saying that the ad has her condemning the Fox ads as manipulative and exploitative of someone’s incurable condition (even though they’re not) – it seems like the obvious thing to do would be not to mention her MS.
