Kneepads For Mr. Leibovich

The New York Times’s Mark Leibovich pens a love letter to Dick Cheney that’s so sweet it reads like it was written by a litle girl waxing poetic about My Little Pony.

“It’s just such a big thrill to see and hear this man,” says Marvin Smith, a farmer and former teacher.

Mr.
Smith says most people he knows feel the same way, “except for a few of
those peacemakers.” He means protesters, a smattering of whom are
picketing down the street.

“We love him here,” Susan Wagle, a state senator, says of Mr. Cheney.

Why does the Times write stories like this? While there are pockets of support for President Bush, its almost universal that Dick Cheney is not liked. Yet, the Times goes to pains to find the one or two percent that find Cheney as Christ-like, in order to present a very distorted view.

How evil do you have to be, how black is your heart when you spit out the word “peacemaker” like it’s the worst thing in the world to be?

    That’s what the 36 percenters are. Anti-peace, anti-justice, anti-poor, anti-equality.

I’m serious and not being the least bit melodramatic. The forces of darkness is thisclose to permanently claiming our country. November 7th is an all-or-nothing battle for its soul.

Okay, that’s is a bit melodramatic! (But true.)

Wow- Oliver! Talk about not wanting to peek outside the bubble!

Yes, there are people in the country that would rather meet Dick Cheney than Al Gore.

It is shocking that this article appeared in the NY Times though. I would have expected something more like “Dick Cheney Hangs Decapitated Dachshund Off a Bridge, Then Dines on its Brains and Throws the Entrails at the Crowd” with a picture of Cheney wiping blood off his chin with the sleeve of his starched shirt.

Okay, that’s is a bit melodramatic! (But true.)

I agree with Marty: the NYT is just performing a public service. If there are people in our midsts who are ignorant and malicious enough to worship Darth Vader, I want to know about them!

I’d like a national registry of Cheney lovers, so I can tell my children which neighborhoods to avoid.
