Titans vs. Skins In One Word

YEEEAAAARGH.

There’s no way to win in the NFL when your sorry looking defense lets Travis Henry look like the second coming of Barry Sanders.

And there is absolutely no way to win when your quarterback can only throw over 10 yards once every 12-13 plays and even then the ball looks like a dead duck.

A quarterback, a quarterback, my kingdom for a quarterback.

Sometimes being a Redskins fan is just as bad as being a liberal apologist. I don’t know how I do it.

I wish I could drum up some sympathy for ya. But my beloved Bears seem to have FINALLY found a QB after over 2 decades of futility at the position.

I wish I was still living in the B’more/DC area (I used to work at Ft. Meade) to see all the fairweather ‘Skins fans taking off their jerseys.

At least you seem to be a true fan…for now. But from the 8+ years I lived there, you guys almost look for excuses to curse your team! Hell, blame Danny-Boy! He put together this squad, paid all the players (and assistants! They make more than my boy Lovie). So aim your ire at the owner’s box.

  3. I don’t blame Snyder. He’s one of the few owners in the league who aren’t just happy with breaking even and making a profit. And Skins fans are not even remotely fair weather. Regions much larger than ours don’t have the consistently strong fan base we have had year after year. If you want fair weather, check out somewhere like Miami or Los Angeles who doesn’t care much about their sports teams unless they’re winning a championship.

I won several bets with my Redskin buddies that we would not win this game. The skins have been flailing about all season. We have won on luck not consistency.

It’s not just the QB, it’s the new system, we don’t have the personnel for the scheme. We should bring in the young QB and let him learn the game and prepare for the future, we ain’t goin no where this year.

Let me clarify. I never lived in D.C. proper. I lived in Laurel, MD and used to go to the Greene Turtle on Sundays to watch games.

The ‘Skins fans in that area were some of the most pathetically fairweather fans I’d ever seen (Schottenheimer’s last year is Exhibit A).

When they’re losing, you only saw the old-head Skins fans with their authetic ‘87 Darrel Greene jerseys. When they’re losing, the Turtle would be PACKED with freshly minted fans with jerseys that still had the Modell’s tags on them! It was hilarious.

And these same folks would give ME a hard time when I showed up every Sunday with my Payton/Singletary/Urlacher jersey, even when the Bears sucked. Like that’s not what you’re supposed to do!

BUT, when I went to the Bears/Skins game in December or ‘01 (Bears kicked BUTT) at FedEx, most of the fans were great. Except for this one jerk that threw tin-foil at us after Urlacher caught a TD pass on a fake field-goal.

  6. Yes, well that’s different. Last year when the Skins made the playoffs, a bunch of people showed up at Redskins stores – and I was asking “where were you guys when we were 6-10?”. I consider fairweather folks to be so-called fans who give up at the first sign of adversity, I haven’t seen that with Skins fans (I’ve never lived in DC either, just Takoma Park and Silver Spring). We remember the good years still and we just want to go back to them.

  7. StarkyLuv says:

And where do you think those people that flooded the Redskins stores last year were from?

  8. Organic George says:

    Darrell Green OLD SCHOOL ?

Hell I go back to Sunny and Billy

  9. Portis had 14 carries. 14!!! I believe in getting the ball to Moss but Portis needs at least 25 carries.

The defense is imploding. Even if Griffin and Salave’a were injured it doesn’t explain the free fall the D has taken since last year. Something is going on.

Snyder has replaced every position except the Director of Player Personnel. It’s been a long time coming but please fire Vinnie Cerrato.

Re Oliver’s first comment .. don’t forget Baltimore. No one and I mean no one liked the Ravens until they won the Superbowl.

Well, that’s not exactly fair. The team was what, 5 years old the year they went? Noone had a chance to really get into them.

And I did live in the area that year and I have to say, it was magical. Driving up 295 into B’more and seeing purple and black banners EVERYWHERE with “Festivus Maximus” on them.

That town was going NUTS from not having a sports champion of any kind since the ‘83 Orioles. It was a great time to hop on that wagon temporarily (especially since my Bears were in the crapper and it was fun to root for a team in the playoffs. And it’s an AFC team so in my mind it “doesn’t count”).

I’d NEVER root for the Skins no matter how well they did. In fact, at the Greene Turtle, I developed a reputation of not only accurately calling who the ‘Skins would lose to, but WHY. It was all in good fun though, not ill-feelings. Not until Eagles fans starting coming anyway..

  12. Ravens are Johnnycomelatelies. I refer to them as “the other, less decorated, less historically rich team in Maryland”

Eh, not true. The Panthers and Jags developed a huge fan base immediately.

And Baltimore, who was stripped of a football team and finally got one back did not seem too excited.

Well, perhaps we will see if people will like them when they will be sucking for the rest of the season.

Well, you just proved my point. B’more was still EXTREMELY bitter about losing the Colts and looked at the Ravens as pretty much a bootlegged franchise. It wasn’t “their” team.

Of course it would take winning to make the city warm up to them. I don’t get what you’re trying to prove here. The team was new, and the city was still bitter. When they started winning, the city warmed to them. What’s wrong with that?

And Oliver, don’t be a hater because the Raven came in and immediately stole the Redskin’s thunder. Danny-boy has been trying DAMNED hard to bring glory back to the Burgundy and Gold. But I left enough bad ju-ju in that area to last another few years! :o P

Remember when people thought Greg Williams was a defensive genius in the halcyon days of…well…10 months ago?

  16. liberalrob says:

I thought the Skins still had a chance with 1:08 left. They could have moved down the field methodically, but inexplicably Brunell heaved up that duck 50 yards downfield and it got picked. I couldn’t believe it, what was he thinking? Or if that was the play called, the offensive coordinator must’ve not seen the 1 and focused on the 08. You don’t throw the Hail Mary with over a minute left, I’m sorry. Somebody had a brain fart there.

Anyway, T.O. put the naysayers to rest yesterday, at least temporarily. 3 TD’s, including Tony Romo’s first NFL TD pass. And the Saints beat the Iggles. So it was a good day for me. :)

If this keeps up, will we have to ask Media Matters to put you under suicide watch?

  18. buma says:

On the bright side (for the Redskins at least) they didn’t lose ground on the Iggles.
