My thoughts on the debate’s partisan points aside (I liked O’Malley’s talk about “The Two Bob Ehrlichs - the one in election years, and the ones when he’s been governing”), is that I love living in a blue state. When we have gubernatorial elections, they are actually about the issues regular Marylanders are dealing with every day - crime, health care, education, utilities. We’re not having an election about killing the babies or putting up Christmas displays. We’re having an election about adult issues.
I did find Ehrlich’s debate style kind of odd. He kept a really messy desk and used his hands a lot as he rocked around, a quite defensive posture for a sitting governor. O’Malley’s was more a traditional debate style with him looking head on to the cameras.
It started getting painful after a certain point that Ehrlich couldn’t keep any focus on the issues, because he was so busy trying to cover up his record of incompetence. O’Malley literally cleaned his clock and there was nothing he could do to stop it but make Bush style excuses. I was at an event that Anthony Brown spoke at right after the first debate before the live one last night, and evidently it was even worse because Ehrlich wasn’t prepared to answer any of his short comings as a Governor. So that’s why he needed all the extra paperwork on his desk, so he could cloud the issues with a lot of numbers that don’t change the fact that he’s incompetent. The first debate is suppose to be shown Monday night. It should be even funnier and give a better window into how incompetent Ehrlich really has been as Governor. I know it’s hard to imagine that he could have done worse, but he did. That was the prepared and organized Ehrlich that you saw.
I wish we were having a similar gubernatorial election in this blue state. Instead, we have Kerry Healey (empty-dress Lt. Gov. to empty-suit Mitt Romney) doing everything short of saying, “Deval Patrick will let everyone out of jail and set them all loose in your tony suburbs.”
I live under the rule of mR. O’malley. I lived under him in Baltimore and now with him running the state of Md. He lied to Baltimoreans and he is again lying to Marylanders. If he is so “for the working families of Maryland”, then why , instead of cutting budget items, is he going to raise taxes. Dem’s never take resposibility for their actions. In office or in life. It is always someone elses fault! Stop spending, stop raising taxes, and stop lying!!!!!!! I was a Dem for many years but I woke up. When will all of you?
