Signs Of Life

As long-time readers know, I have a healthy sense of pessimism when it comes to Democratic electoral victories (too much, some would say) but one of things you should look for is where the money is flowing in and out – not where party hacks and loyalists "feel" the momentum is going. A lot of people "felt" we were going to win in 2004, but there was just as much feeling on the other side. With that said, check this out.
In recent days, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has given back television time it had reserved in Democratic-held districts in West Virginia, South Carolina and Ohio — apparently concluding that those races are beyond reach unless something dramatic changes the national political environment in the 25 days before the Nov. 7 election.
The Republican National Committee, which is using its substantial resources to supplement the party’s Senate campaign committee, has spent virtually all of its television money in just three states — Ohio, Missouri and Tennessee — hoping to build a levee strong enough to save those seats and the Senate majority.
The article goes on to explain that there are many races on the "second tier" that apparently are opening up for Dems and the question is which of the races to put money into in order to juice them positively.
I’ve become more than a little tired of Democrats feeling each election as a forgegone conclusion against us, while Republicans are smug in the certainty that they will triumph. On Nov. 8th we’ll know if we’re hearing the same old song or if it’s mid-day in America again (we don’t get the morning until we get a Democratic president).
ALSO: The reason I remain pessimistic long term about the Democrats is that just now in the wake of Foley are some campaigns seeing the value of personal attacks. NOW? The Republicans have institutionalized the personal attack (ask Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Howard Dean and John Kerry) but Dems just seem to have had a light bulb go off? No killer instinct, a continued sense of complacency: keys to minority status.

So, what happens if, after all these encouraging (to Democrats) polls, the GOP hangs on to both houses?
Well, perhaps then finally Dems will overhaul both their GOTV and war room operations because they’re clearly not getting the job done.
Not to mention this band of criminals and incompetents continue to run our country and our world into the ground.
Actually, I was implying the possibility of election fraud.
That too may be a foregone conclusion.
