Yes, I think the economic policies of President Clinton had an effect on the economy. You cut taxes for the middle class in a broad way and people have money to invest and hire. As opposed to waiting for it to trickle down on the great unwashed.

Bush’s military actions have both been failures. Afghanistan is a drug runner’s paradise and Iraq is in civil war. He also presided over the worst terrorist attack in US history. Amazing how that gets glossed over.

The Democrats want to end the corporate welfare and the giveaway to the megarich. Some, like me, also want to fine tune our government’s programs and make long term investments in energy security that will save us money and lives in the long run.

Amazing how that works.

Bush has been in office for two military actions libertating two countries and following the largest attack on american soil in history…and yet, growth is strong, wages are strong, the market is strong. Now I won’t argue that the republicans are spending too much, I agree. But a huge chunk of that spending is on liberal social programs! Are you saying the democrats want that to stop?

When almost 90% of tax revenues come from the top 50% of earners. By the way- we don’t tax poor people- unless you think that they shouldn’t even have to contribute to their own future retirement/social security (payroll tax) which of course, according to the followers of Oliver, is in now crisis. (*cough* ponzi scheme *cough*)

I suppose the economy isn’t really a topic you want to get too much play right now- most of the numbers look too good for your liking.

Jobs, wages, tax revenues, unemployment, stock market (on principals this time, not just tech and web speculators), oil prices, inflation, interest rates, job market, and even the promised deficit reduction (in half the time it was predicted.) Yeah- spending is the big achilles heel, but I really don’t believe that you think the Democrats would spend less. Do you? It took a Republican Congress to keep Clinton in check. (I only wish they would have kept themselves in check better- but earmark reform should help some.)

I know- you can always find something negative if you scrape enough, but it’s pretty tough right now. Most of what you have been whining about has pretty much turned around. But I know- you want to change direction on the economy too. (Even if it is going in the right direction.)

The problem is that Bush’s “first guess” has fucked things up so bad that the only option is to leave Iraq. Why do you think that’s not a plan?

We aren’t talking to North Korea, we’re saying one thing and talking another with Iran, and Iraq is an unmitigated disaster which gets worse every day. I will state there is no Republican plan for Iran beyond repeating “Victory!!!” a million times without defining what in God’s name that is.

With regards to the economy, the top of the crust is doing fine, but the middle and lower classes have not seen their situation change appreciably, certainly not like how they did under the last Democratic presidency when everyone’s boat rose with the tide. Whatever (unlikely) increases in government income due to the tax cuts has been completely offset by the insane spending by the Republican government. You are afraid to state your the democrats position on taxes (raise them), cause you know THAT is a loser. The Bush tax cuts have led to higher government income than anytime in history, while at the same time continuing the growth at a respectable rate.

You are afraid to state the democrats energy policy as well (start a “think tank”), because it is no policy, and doesn’t come close to addressing the near-term concerns.

Hard to choose there. You left out family values

Tough choices this year. We incompetence, failure, class warfare, corruption and enabling pedophiles vs. competence, diplomacy, protect the workers, energy independence and anti-pedophile.

On Iran: repudiate the incompetent, ideologically paralyzed and willfully blind failures.

Only by digging out and burning the entire rotten GOP apparatus, root and branch, can we hope to turn things around. Unfortunately, we can’t vote Bush out in this election; for now all we can do is elect a Congress with balls, to actually curb and investigate the extreme and ongoing failures of the radical Bush administration.

The republicans whip the democrats like a bad habit in the idea department…unfortunately they haven’t actually FOLLOWED THROUGH with those ideas…leading to their inevitable demise in November…followed by two years of watching the democrats running around stepping on their cranks….
