Mark Foley Is Out Over Salacious Emails

Yesterday when I wrote about this, Jay Caruso said I hit a new low. I now recommend a drink for him.

AP: Foley submits resignation to Congress

Rep. Foley considering resigning

Foley resigned because of his Republican family values:

Hours earlier, ABC News had read excerpts of instant messages provided by former male pages who said the congressman, under the AOL Instant Messenger screen name Maf54, made repeated references to sexual organs and acts.

Yes, Republican Mark Foley is a pedophile.

And of course, the reaction from the wingnut idiots at Redstate:

I will refrain from pointing out that Barney Frank is still in Congress and I will refrain from daring to suggest that this is just another example of why the policy against gay scoutmasters in the Boy Scouts is a good one.

When confronted with a Republican pedophile, the Republican reaction is to smear a gay Democrat and all gay Americans. Nice.

UPDATE: He’s removed them now. Good thing some of us notice these things.

AN IDEA: Tell Mark Foley to donate his considerable campaign war chest to a charity for abused kids.

HOLY COW: ABC has posted the full IM transcripts. They are very explicit, and very very wrong.

Well Ollie, you may be right, but do you have to be so darn… shrill?

That’s Republican family values for you.

  3. Dugger says:

I hate it when it happens to our side.

  4. It seems to happen a lot on your side.

I also recall Jay saying something to the effect of George “Macaca” Allen wasnt a racist because he had sponsored some bill or other that said racism was bad, I dont know which and cant be bothered to check, but was basically claiming that that one act alone threw a wrench in the whole Macaca-saying, Noose-in-the-office-hanging, confederate-flag-draping, pigs-head-in-the-black-families-mailbox-putting, nigger-nigger-nigger-nigger-nigger-nigger-saying argument.
How does this relate to Rep Foley? Well lets go back two months.

    H.R.5749
Title: To amend title 18, United States Code, to protect youth from exploitation by adults using the Internet, and for other purposes.
Sponsor: Rep Foley, Mark [FL-16] (introduced 7/10/2006)

Hm… one could almost make the argument that, for political purposes, he proposed legislation that actually went contrary to his lifestyle just to seem like a better person to the voting public… but then to make that argument, one would clearly be sonking to “new lows”, right Jay?

  6. MJB says:

Who will the right trot out as a balancing example on the left? I’m going with Paula Poundstone, that influential public servant, she.

  7. Rheinhard says:

But wait, I thought this kind of thing was only bad if the perpetrator was a Democrat?

  8. jimmmm says:

Has pedophile enabler Jay Caruso come by to apologize yet?

    Yeah, that’s what I thought.

  9. Jay says:

Oliver, this doesn’t change the fact that at the time , you had no evidence other than those emails. You then tried to claim you didn’t accuse him of being a pedophile. But now you’re doing a, “See? I was right!” act. You can’t have it both ways.

So I wouldn’t go pounding my chest too much if I were you.

That being said, now there is proof and he should have resigned and there should be a full investigation into his actions, including a criminal investigation to determine if he broke any laws.

  10. Jay says:

Jimmmmm, want to take your foot out of your mouth now?

  11. jimmmm says:

Shorter Jay: “…And this investigation won’t stop till we find a Democrat who also panders to underage boys.”

  12. jimmmm says:

Not until you take your head out of your ass, Jay.”

The operative word is “yet.” As in, “Jay is pwned… yet again.”

  13. Dr. Squid says:

Does Jay also agree that certain people should not be subject to wiretapping because they are conservative?

    Hannity believes that.

Fits in with the conservative mindset that conservatives are always better because they’re such awesome conservatives who would like to remind you how conservative they are.

Amazing how people as insecure about themselves as conservatives can go to sleep without crawling under the bed to hide from those nasty rabble who just aren’t conservative enough.

“Oliver, this doesn’t change the fact that at the time , you had no evidence other than those emails.”

That being said, I doubt that this actually happened. Oh, oops …

  15. Stanley says:

I wonder if Dennis Hastert is going to get slammed over the fact that he, as the leader of the House, knew about Foley’s indiscretions for almost a FULL YEAR, yet still allowed him to chair the child sex offender caucus.

I guy can hope, can’t he?

  16. Duros62 says:

Oliver, this doesn’t change the fact that at the time , you had no evidence other than those emails.

So, what does that mean, that he wasn’t a pedophile then ,but now he is?

    Come on.

  17. Duros62 says:

… but was basically claiming that that one act alone threw a wrench in the whole Macaca-saying, Noose-in-the-office-hanging, confederate-flag-draping, pigs-head-in-the-black-families-mailbox-putting, nigger-nigger-nigger-nigger-nigger-nigger-saying argument.

How dare you, sir? You should be ashamed at the intellectual dishonesty your post reveals. The misinformation and distortion of facts is blatant and inexcusable.

    It was a deer’s head.

  18. factcheck says:

“So, what does that mean, that he wasn’t a pedophile then ,but now he is?”

It means j was against pedophiles before he was for them.
