Link: TPMmuckraker.

A sixteen-year-old former page to the House of Representatives shared with Hill staff emails sent to him from Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL), in which the lawmaker asks inappropriate questions of him. They’ve since shown up on Web sites.

You know Oliver, you sit there and whine like a stuck pig when Bush invokes FDR and Truman to criticize Democrats, and in your very next post you latch on to crap like this, and in the process accuse a man of being a pedophile.

    What a jackass.

  2. Oh, I’m sorry, it’s perfectly normal to write salacious emails to young male interns is it now – I’m sorry Jay but IOKIYAR rules do not apply here.

I hate it when I’m right sometimes: Flashback to Tuesday:

So in the past week jay has defended racists and torturers. What’s next, child molesters?

  4. Duros62 says:

Foley’s office told ABC that “there is no official investigation into the matter and that Foley is only guilty of being friendly.”

    OOOOOkay, then.

  5. Jay says:

Pedophilia is disgusting. If you’re going to make a charge like that Oliver, you better have more evidence than a few emails.

    Jackass.

  6. Jay says:

And the idea that you think asking somebody what they want for their birthday is salacious tells me you don’t get out much Oliver.

  7. factcheck says:

Those emails could be innocent but are real creepy. The whole informal tone of the emails with the lowercase and … looks like a 14-year-old. Not becoming of a Congressman. Does that mean he’s a molester, no. That does bear further investigation.

  8. Nothing gets you flamed like talking about pedophiles. Must be because they are so many of them.

  9. Jadegold says:

If you’re going to make a charge like that Oliver, you better have more evidence than a few emails.

DC’s a small town. Foley’s been the subject of these rumors for almost a decade.

Jay will defend anyone doing anything so long as they’re a GOPer. The fact is any parent is going to have a problem with a 52 year old man who isn’t a close relative corresponding with a 16 y.o. boy in this manner.

    Except, of course, Jay Caruso.

  10. z adura says:

I certainly hope that some of the other e-mails are more direct than this one, because although inappropriate and creepy, this in no way rises to the level of pedophilia. Hopefully, we don’t turn into the slimy Republicans in an effort to defeat our opponents.

  11. Jay says:

DC’s a small town. Foley’s been the subject of these rumors for almost a decade.

Yeah and I heard the rumors about you barnyard animals.

Just when I thought I had a reprieve from true Internet creeps, Jadegold gets a furlough and spreads his stench around the blogosphere again.

When do you go back inside Jadey?

  12. Jadegold says:

Again, Jay Caruso, even you might have a problem with someone about 40 years older than your kid corresponding in such a way.

    Or maybe not.

    Anything for the GOP, huh?

  13. Jay says:

All I said was there was no evidence that Foley was a pedophile.

But I would have better luck bending steel with my brainwaves than to expect you to actually engage in any sort intellectual honesty.

  14. Jadegold says:

All I said was there was no evidence that Foley was a pedophile.

Then you’d have no problem with somebody three times your kid’s age corresponding with him?

Especially when your own kid thinks it’s untoward?

I guess you have to take one for the team.

  15. Jay says:

Jadey, stop trying to change the subject.

Once again (another one with reading comprehension problems), I said that pedophilia is disgusting and that for Oliver to accuse Foley of such without proof makes him a jackass.

Comprende? My comments were not directed at what Oliver did not say. My comments were directed at what he did say.

  16. Hattie says:

Who is the culprit here? Surely not Oliver. I don’t think his taste runs to the underaged, as far as I can tell.

  17. Where am I accusing Rep. Foley of being a pedophile. The title of the post is “Republican Mark Foley: Interested In Young Boys?”

  18. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Pretty tame stuff.

So Foley e-mailed the kid. Last I heard, that’s still within the bounds of acceptable behavior.

If there’s more to the story, it will come out. But this isn’t worth making a fuss about.

  19. Dugger says:

There are some decent posts here, all around.

    Just my two cents.

  20. Jay says:

Oliver, you wrapped your accusation in a question, nothing more.

  21. Duros62 says:

All I said was there was no evidence that Foley was a pedophile.

Not much evidence that he isn’t one, either.

Oliver, you wrapped your accusation in a question, nothing more.

    Questions swirl.

  22. factcheck says:

    High placed sources say…

  23. Duros62 says:

Or, a la Chris Wallace, “Viewer emails want to know…”

  24. factcheck says:

    Disturbing if true…

  25. jimmmm says:

True. Foley resigns. Pleads insanity: “I’m just crazy about young boy flesh!!!”

Also true?: Jay Teabag is a fuckwit pedophile enabler. We report, you decide.

  26. Cortney says:

This is ridiculous. 16 is a precious age. You can be cruel or innocent. At 16, I did a lot if instigating and accepted a lot of crap from people. I read the emails. For you guys to accuse him of pedophilia is disgusting. Pedophiles should rot in HELL. Those emails prove nothing. You are burning him without sufficient evidence. He shouldn’t have resigned, It makes him look more guilty. This country is about justice, and innocent until proven guilty, What happened to that theory?

  27. z adura says:

Cortney has an Emily Litela moment.

  28. buma says:

jay is looking so good on this one, taking the side of the pedophile because the guy is a republican. When are these enablers like jay going to stop the blindness?
For years people have been asking what it would take for republicans to demand the impeachment of bush. Now at last we know where they might draw the line.

  29. factcheck says:

buma, this is a real life implementation of the “dead girl, live boy” theory.

Joe Scarborough had the dead girl think a few years ago, and Mark Foley had the “live boy” scenario yesterday.

    These Republicans can’t help themselves!
