GOP Bigot Eruption: Of Republicans And “Jap” Cars

Say it with me, folks: they can’t help themselves.

The political director for GOP Rep. John Kline has been filmed bellowing about “Jap” cars. The Minneapolis Star Tribune has just reported that the political director, former state Rep. Mike Osskopp, was filmed by Dem activists outside an event on Sunday with Dem John Murtha, who was in the state to campaign for Coleen Rowley, the Dem challenger to Kline. The tape — which subsequently popped up on the Inside Minnesota Politics blog — showed Osskopp giving people a hard time for arriving in foreign-made cars. “Another Jap car,” Osskopp screamed.

    “Jap” as a slur? What is this guy 90?

    Besides, many Japanese cars have more American content than US cars do.

    Anyone who drives a Prius, which helps reduce our dependence on oil and reduces emissions, is more patriotic than anyone who drives an American gas guzzler.

    There’s nothing racist about the term “Jap cars” since Jap Cars are better built than American cars by leaps and bounds.

    A Jap Car is a good thing.

    My Honda Civic “Japcar” was built in Alliston, Ontario. (I live around Vancouver, BC). It gets around 39 MPG on the highway-and that’s a 3.78 litre US gallon, BTW.
    All Honda Civics sold in North America are built in one of three plants in Canada and the US.
