Crossing Into Conspiracy
Tweet
Conservatives need for their to be WMD in Iraq. Every bit of evidence, numerous studies, and common sense says there were no WMD or an Iraq-Al Qaeda connection. But the cons need it to be true, because the man who they worship as if a God – George W. Bush – would have lied us into war for no reason.
So, cons do what they always do. They invent reality. Check out the Freepers, appointing themselves as interpreters of arcane and dubiously sourced Iraqi documents, claiming that they have discovered the smoking gun that proves WMDs.
I especially enjoy the comment explaining why these wackjob conspiracy theories aren’t on even Fox News:
Maddeningly, the lies will continue. The media will subvert the truth to help their America hating cohorts in congress.
Well, clearly.
Even more mainstream – on the right, at least – is The Weekly Standard (a Murdoch rag) who trots out Cheney’s official biographer Stephen Hayes to say that yes, Virginia, Al Qaeda worked with Hussein – no matter what the facts are, as he’s done before, Hayes has got propaganda to push.

OW… there’s just so much wrong with this post.
1 – Do you know who JVeritas is?
2 – Do you speak Arabic? (If you do, perhaps you could help him out!)
3 – Do you know that there are hundreds of thousands of pages of documents captured from Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. This is information that we did not have prior to the invasion and it’s extremely important that we understand them. (Unless you prefer to not have any new information…)
4 – You point to a freeper complaining about the short-shrift that the media has given to this mountain of documents that a handful of people are translating. I think this is a fair assessment, unless the media isn’t interested in additional information that might come out of these documents. I will admit that the tone of freeper’s comment was over the top… fortunately, you’ve never been over the top in any of your posts, so you’ve got all the authority to criticize.
Perhaps it is your side that needs to keep repeating the mantra “No WMDs!!! HALLIBURTON!!!”, lest your position lose all weight.
Regards,
St Wendeler
P.S. What’s with the new site design? Liked the old one better!
One of my co-workers insists that the 500 ancient gas shells they found were sufficient justification for the WMD claims. I have no idea how to argue against that. Illogic and irrationality are the order of the day.
Conspiracy therories are dangerous. We invade Iraq based on conspiracy theories.
