Wonder If Anyone Will Apologize to the Washington Post & Dana Priest?

Somehow I doubt it.

President Bush on Wednesday for the first time acknowledged the use of secret CIA prisons outside U.S. borders to hold top suspects captured in the war on terrorism.

And another Bush lie dies.

Dugger, your thoughts on Oliver’s blatant use of “Bush” and “lie” in the SAME sentence??!

Apoligize for what, exactly? The issue was whether Priest and the WaPo had the authority to declassify. And though I haven’t scoured the Prez’s remarks yet, I doubt that particular policy was enacted today.

Where exactly did the Bush administration deny the existence of these prisons?

And from what I remember, the criticism directed at the Post wasn’t that they were reporting something that wasn’t true, but that they were reporting it at all.

Once again, you seem to be cheering the fact that sensitive information with national security implications was leaked to the press.

Yes, Jay, we are all happy that the US has secret torture prisons. I can’t imagine why someone would think the public has a right to know that. Or congress.

Where exactly did OW ask for an apology from the Bush Administration, or imply they denied the existence of these prisons?

or imply they denied the existence of these prisons?

Why did he call it a Bush lie?

    Learn to read:

“President Bush on Wednesday for the first time acknowledged…”

Literate folks take that to mean he hasn’t acknowledged the practice before, and that when pressed on the subject, he has danced around the subject by focusing on the issue of rendition as he did here:

“We do not render to countries that torture. That has been our policy, and that policy will remain the same.”

Secret CIA prisons in Europe aside, I guess he forgot about sending prisoners to Syria and Uzbekistan.

Kidnapping and secretly detaining prisoners is illegal under the human rights provisions of the EU and the laws of most European countries, not to mention the whole quaint Geneva Conventions thing, the UN, and so on. That makes it difficult to swallow Rice’s assertion that:

“The United States has respected—and will continue to respect—the sovereignty of other countries.”

Putting aside the crushing irony of that statement in light of the whole Iraq war, I can only assume Rice is either lying or basically saying that the EU members hosting these secret prisons are doing so with the full knowledge of U.S. actions, likely putting them in violation of EU provisions.

Of course, this is all secondary to the idea that the CIA should be allowed to disappear “suspects” at will for torture overseas to avoid US law.

How do “secret” prisons do more for national security than publicly known prisons? In both cases the criminals are incarcerated and secured. Why did any of them need to be more secret than Guantanamo, unless things were going on there that couldn’t go on in the public eye?

“We do not render to countries that torture. That has been our policy, and that policy will remain the same.”

    Ohhh, dugger!
    True or false?

Near as I can make out, the main upshot of this “press leak” is that the prisoners will now get protection under the Geneva Convention.

Oh no. Do the Liberal media know no bounds. Will the treason never end. And so forth.

    Sketch,

The dictionary doesn’t change for OW. He’s just as wrong as you, Midder, Nimmer etc.

Now go contribute something positive son.

Reality doesn’t change for you Dugger, a lie is a lie and Bush is a liar. He says false things with the intent to deceive the American public.

According to Dugger’s view, a disclaimer should be flashing behind Bush’s head every time he gives a speech: “George Bush is not responsible for the veracity of anything he says. Listeners or readers of his words should not accept what George Bush says to be true. Believe him at your own risk! George Bush is not responsible for any action he may take on subjects he is mistaken about.”

    LoL!

Dugger, I hope you continue to enjoy the view up your ass and that you don’t run out of room for those bumper stickers you parrot through your posts.

Haven’t figured out if you’re hopelessly naive with your rose colored view of The Decider and his “administration” or just really stupid.

Dugger, you have no idea how long I’ve been here so I suggest you exercise caution with your assumptions. You know, that same caution you preach when you make love to The Decider?
