The right wing went apeshit when CBS was set to air The Reagans for all the reasons that you are now defending the Path of 9-11. Glenn Greenwald gives us the recap of the hypocrisy.

That said, I don’t have a problem with ABC screening wat version of events they want. Michael Moore certainly slants events his own way. But if you’re going to suggest, Jay,that the left wants to censor ABC be prepared to hurl the same charge at the leading lights of the idiot right. Then ask yourself why ABC is going through with their broadcast whiel CBS caved.

Uh… because they’re not? Nowhere in the press releases I’ve seen is the project described as a DOCUMENTARY. It’s self-labeled as a DRAMATIZATION, no different than From the Earth to the Moon or Band of Brothers, 2 other projects that, while partialy fictionalized, were sent out to schools.

ABC has sent advance copies to conservative bloggers and prominent right wing pundits.

ABC REFUSED to give advance copies to Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger, or Madeleine Albright before the show airs.

ABC hired only Republicans writers and advisors for the film.

ABC broadcasts over public airwaves, making them particularly accountable for any content which may be seen as factually misleading and politically partisan. This differs from, say, a movie produced for distribution to theaters which do not drink from the public trough, don’t pretend to be a trusted name in news, and don’t get all the free publicity they can cram into a broadcast day (i.e. news stories and talk show bookings). Did I mention that that broadcast day is done over airwaves owned by the public but leased by Congress for free to the networks? That’s a multi-billion dollar subsidy (which is bad enough) that isn’t for partisan propaganda.

Thanks for pointing that out, ’cause getting Scholastic to do their shilling to students really puts a much bigger dent in the whole argument about ABC trying to pass this trash off as fact.

Are you kidding me?? Stone passionately defended the accuracy of his film. People started calling him ‘The New Jim Garrison.’ There were press conferences with his researcher, appearances on television news shows, tons of newspaper and magazine articles.

It was a media event, unlike anything that had happened since the REAL nutball Jim Garrison started the entire furor.

Personally, I doubt they really want the movie pulled. My guess is they’d rather have an outrage to holler about.

I’d be a lot happier if they’d get that worked up about taking on the misinformation spread about the people who are actually running for office.

I don’t watch network TV. I don’t watch cable. I will watch movies on VHS or DVD.

ABC can show whatever it wants as far as I’m concerned. It’s all crap.
