Hmmm…… “Our people” Do you mean Americans or “African-Americans”?”
I’m just asking… Oh, and by the way, about the pace of reconstruction. Have you ever remodeled or built a house? My experience with not non-historically unprecedented hurricane related construction taught me that when a contractor says a job will take 30 days, he doesn’t necessarily mean 30 consecutive days… And I didn’t have 250,000 friends and neighbors trying to build/restore their houses at the same time…
Our people, asshole. citizens of this country. The rest of your post is equal parts bullshit as well.
Interesting that the photo op of bush yesterday standing in front of those new houses; Those houses were funded by Harry Connick, Jr. and the Marsalis family, built by Habitat for Humanity, as a village for musicians. Not. Federal. Relief
– Less than half of the city’s pre-storm population of 460,000 has returned, putting the population at roughly what it was in 1880.
– Nearly a third of the trash has yet to be picked up.
– Sixty percent of homes still lack electricity.
– Seventeen percent of the buses are operational.
– Half of the physicians have left, and there is a shortage of 1,000 nurses.
– Six of the nine hospitals remain closed.
– Sixty-six percent of public schools have reopened.
– A 40 percent hike in rental rates, disproportionately affecting black and low-income families.
– A 300 percent increase in the suicide rate.

The cleanup and reconstruction is taking so long so that the “undesireables” don’t come back to the city. That way the neocons can rebuild the city like some white-washed theme park. Call it “DixieLand!” All the flavor of New Orleans without any the taste.
Feh.
waaa waaaa…. The mean old President won’t use his magic wand to make everything better… you whiny pussy
Hey duros, you’ll never guess who’s been the biggest holdup as far as reconstruction.
I’ll give you a hint: His initials are RN.
Richard Nixon?
Oh and Zipity? At the risk of hurting your feewings and bringing uncivility to the fray,
fuck you too.
“Mayor Ray Nagin, then in a re-election battle, refused to support shrinking the city, a notion tantamount to political kryptonite in many neighborhoods that feared being bulldozed. Nagin’s decision, or lack of one, sparked outrage among urban planners at a national level.”
Yup, all his fault. After all, how is it in Nagin’s best interest to find housing for NO residents?
You just don’t get it.
