Cons: Why Won’t You Hate?

Conservative blogger/wacko Mark Noonan is upset at the Fox News hostages for not indulging in conservative hatred of Islam. Darn them!

Maybe he was upset that the hostages in question let themselves be used for propaganda purposes. Yeah, *WE* know their “conversion” was a bunch of bunk merely done to mollify their captors and be released. But that’s not how “the Arab street” will see this.

  2. factcheck says:

farris’ comment is probably the most ignorant thing that has ever been said on this blog, and that’s saying a lot.

Let’s see, either “let them use us for propoganda purposes” or “die”.

Seeing as farris has never been in the line of fire (chickenhawk), he needs to shut his mouth and defer to people that are actually putting their life on the line.

  3. SaveFarris says:

These are the same folks who say they are willing to die so as not to hand over confidential sources.

PS: Just a couple of threads down, you pooh-poohed my interest in Katrina due to my proximity. Yet, I apparently aren’t allowed to have an opinion on Iraq unless I enlist.

Which is it: does immediate participation in an event qualify you for dicussion of an issue or not?

  4. factcheck says:

Wrong, idiot. You are allowed to have an opinion. You also need to recognize that your opinion on this means nothing unless you’ve actually been in that situation.

What would farris do in the same situation? He would pee his pants, convert to Islam and do anything else his captors wanted him to do.

But that’s not going to happen, because farris refuses to fight, while at the same time criticizing decisions people make to save their lives.

  5. SaveFarris says:

Fine then. Your opinion about Katrina means nothing.

  6. factcheck says:

Neither does yours, since you live nowhere near New Orleans and can’t judge what someone from New Orleans should do or could do in their situation.

Or you can enlist and find out what real life and death decisions are like. But you won’t do that because you are more comfortable as a cheerleader (feeling free to 2nd guess them when they aren’t “patriotic” enough).

  7. Jay says:

You also need to recognize that your opinion on this means nothing unless you’ve actually been in that situation.

Oh please. 99% of people wouldn’t be able to give opinions on 99% of issues if that were the case.

    That’s the biggest cop-out ‘argument.’

  8. Sundown says:

So, savefarris, just to be clear. Ignoring the Katrina issue (which isn’t relevant):

You think that the hostages shouldn’t have feigned conversion, and should have just let themselves die?

    Just making sure.

Couldn’t be more wrong. Not only did I get hit by the storm, I was, until a week ago, housing a refugee.

    And now, back on topic!!

Sundown, I don’t think they should have done what what they did. You can’t just go around renouncing your faith doing whatever your captives want and hope to retain your journalistic credibility. Though it’s a VERY close call. Ask me again in an hour and I might change my mind.

“You can’t just go around renouncing your faith doing whatever your captives want and hope to retain your journalistic credibility”

What does their religion have to do with journalistic credibility? And besides, they work for Fox News, what journalistic credibility could they possibly have?

  11. z adura says:

Just to be clear, even the robot at Blogs for Bush can understand the pseudo-conversion to Islam in order to save one’s life. It is only armchair QB Farris who would not forsake his Lord to save his life. That’s why Farris has left this room to enlist. He’s finally ready to fight the scourge of Islamofascism. His faith and courage is made of just that stuff.

  12. factcheck says:

z adura, you don’t understand. farris wouldn’t renounce his faith to save someone ELSE’s life. He’s ok with someone ELSE dying for farris faith, just so long as the closest he gets to danger is warblogging.

  13. bryan says:

You can ‘convert’ to Islam without renouncing your faith. You can either
    1) Acknowledge that Islam, Christianity and Judaism all follow the same holy books and encompass a lot more than they exclude.
    2) Cross your fingers when saying the statement 3 times that ‘converts’ you.
