#3 Documentary of All Time

Its chances of beating “March of the Penguins” are slim and none, but the Al Gore helmed documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” is now ahead of “Bowling for Columbine” as the #3 documentary film at the box office of all time. Kudos to Vice President Gore.

I will admit the film was better than I had thought it would be. The people who should be seeing the film, are the same people who refuse to watch it. The film’s arguments are compelling, and Gore states them clearly enough that even a limbaugh dittohead could grasp them.

  2. Rheinhard says:

Uh, wait a minute… I thought all the wingers said the movie was totally tanking. How is this possible?

  3. Nimrod Gently says:

OMG POWERLINE LIED TO ME I WILL NEVER TRUST RIGHTWING BLOGS AGAIN oh wai

  4. PD100 says:

Duude!! What about Michael Moore Hates America? or Protocols of Zion? Duuude…

  5. Dugger says:

Hmm. Two of the top three: An Angry Al political diatribe and Mikey Moore’s Kool-Aid playhouse. And they say conservatives don’t have a voice.

OK we acknowledge Hollywood is yours. Congratulations. Maybe SecDef Streisand in the new Angry Left Admin will be better than we imagine. At least she will be a diversion from the upcoming hate Bush show trials. They are sure to be televised.

  6. SaveFarris says:

Now that Gore has beaten expectations and made more money than he (or we) expected to, shouldn’t he have to pay a Windfall Profits tax?

  7. Analog Kid says:

Naw Ferris, even if the WP tax covered Hollywood fantasy movie takings, Gore would weasel out of it by claiming he was dumping the money into his TV network.

Maybe they could broadcast his version of a home improvement show where he convets his 10000 sqft Nashville home to solar and wind power.

Oh wait, that would mean he might have to listen to his own rhetoric instead of just stuffing it into the ears of us common folk.

  8. Nimrod Gently says:

Global Warming really isn’t – or shouldn’t be – a political issue. Giving a fuck about it certainly isn’t “left-wing”. More “common sense”, which though I hate to admit it doesn’t always correlate.

And what the fuck is this Barbra Striesand shit? So she’s a liberal, doesn’t mean we hang on her every word and\or worship her as a goddess-empress.

  9. Dugger says:

    Nimrod,

Clean up your language young man. Little sensitive about Babs aren’t we?

BTW, I believe in global warming and global cooling. But what proof do you have this latest minor variation is actually man made? Back in the 1970s respected scientists were alking the opposite.

  10. Hattie says:

Barbra Streisand? I haven’t thought about her for years.

She couldn’t be any worse. And I’m encouraged to see that you also fully expect trials to take place. I know I’m gonna watch! :-p

  12. Sundown says:

The global warming crisis shouldn’t be a partisan issue.

However, when it comes to people who believe that the earth is only 10,000-20,000 years old, that vacines against the virus causing cervical cancer promote promiscuity, and other quack beliefs… it makes perfect sense that “global warming” is one of those conspiracies by those book-learning elitists.

  13. Nimrod Gently says:

Not particularly, it’s just how I talk. It’s not a big thing to say you believe in Global Warming, it’s pretty much like saying you believe in clouds, or geese. And I don’t know what minor variation you’re talking about, but it doesn’t sound all that important to me given the almost-out-of-control state of global warming in general.

  14. Barbara Streisand is one of those figures, like George Soros, that the GOP likes to mention when they invoke their updated version of a Jewish cabal controlling events from behind the scenes. She has no relevance for actual liberals; she’s just a dog whistle for anti semites on the right.

  15. PD100 says:

“But what proof do you have this latest minor variation is actually man made? Back in the 1970s respected scientists were alking the opposite.”

These days them thar newfangled scientists are talking about climate change that can be atributed to man as a serious issue.

Thats the beauty of the scientific community, they change their position when they get new information.

One has to wonder if Issac Newton were alive today as an outspoken liberal, just how far would wingnuts go to prove his theories wrong?

    -Preferably from nice, tall places….

  16. Muzza says:

More than likely those penguins will have a much shorter march in the future.

  17. Rex Mundane says:

My whole thing is I cant see where the fervency of the Global Warming is a Lie meme comes from. I mean Gore is certainly not in favor of mandating that everyone shut off all electrical devoces and live in caves or something, he just gives some suggestions at the end that, even out of the Global Warming Context, just make sense. I mean like is there anything wrong with making your home more energy efficient? You waste less money on electricity and heating oil, and as such also contribute less to the CO2 levels that “allegedly” cause global warming. Likewise with hybrid cars. Use less gas, save money, fewer pollutants, good for you. What exactly is so objectionable about any of the practical suggestions that Gore makes (I do realize there are some environmentalists that take that kind of thins waaaaaaaaaay too seriously and live in trees eating pinecones and crap, but screw them, they dont have the internet up there) what is it about these practical suggestions that is so inherently offensive that it can bear this kind of howling derision?

SOCIALIST!!!!!!!1111!!! Why do you hate ‘Merka? It’s our divine right to waste power and electricity, and it doesn’t matter because Jaysus is going to whisk us into heaven and smite the A-rabs in the rapture.

  19. Rex, the simplest explanation is that increasingly, hatred of liberals is not merely the product of the Conservative movement, it is the vital energy of that movement. It is the only force capable of binding them together at this point, given the manifest failure of their policies, ideas, and leaders. So their irrational, emotional response to Gore is as much based on an internal dynamic as an external one.

  20. I would cite as evidence the “moderate, reasonable” conservatives who visit this board, day after day, to attack liberals. This from people who believe themselves to be critical of the administration! But they are ruled much more by their negative passions than by their positive aspirations: in this case, attacking liberals (who are out of power) seems to them to be a more productive political action than attacking the conservatives who are very much in power. Such is the power of the emotional call to hatred of liberals.

  21. Zython says:

Clean up your language young man. Little sensitive about Babs aren’t we?

If you cons would shut up about her for 15 minutes, most of the country would think she was dead. Also, nobody knows who George Soros is (maybe not even Soros himself).

My position is still that whether or not Global Warming exists doesn’t matter, since the main way to curtail it would also help fend off other environmental problems, such as O-Zone depletion.

That is unless the cons support skin cancer. But this wouldn’t be the first time that they were pro-cancer.

  22. factcheck says:

Zython, everytime cons bring up Barbra Streisand (who after all is the policy face of the Democratic party), I’m going to point out Rev. Moon, a cult leader who has spent $100’s of millions on the Republican movement.

At least Barbra doesn’t think she’s the messiah.

  23. Duros62 says:

Does anyone think there would be so much opposition from the right if it wasn’t Al Gore making the film? What if it was, oh i dunno, Hulk Hogan, or somebody? The good Dr. G-H makes a very good point. Liberal hate is the only thing left for a good G*d-fearing conservative to hold onto.
