...Like CV ever really matters to voters. It's still a popularity contest when you get right down to it.

no duros, you RUN for president, and aquire enough delegates that you become the natural vp for the annointed candidate. Since you don t plan on winning the nomination, you drop out when things look ugly& .>>

Sort of like McCain in 2000. So we didn't realize at the time he was running for VP?

I agree with DrPedro. Vice President or a run for governor should be his next step.

Yea, thats the problem....but to be honest, i am not sure who I like for the republican ticket either.

But here is the scenario.

Obama runs in the early races, gets a bit of a following that he can drag to the other candidate. When his campaign bogs down because of the lack of experience, he graciously bows out and then gets picked up at the convention where he exorts his followers to tag along to whomever the democratic pick is.

Interesting scenario....could make it tough for republicans...

The post that keeps on giving:
"I know Obama seems appealing as the Great Democratic Hope, but can we at least step back and recognize that his biggest claim to fame so far is beating Alan Keyes? Democrats should aim higher."

The GOP even went out of state to get Keyes. Is it the strategy for every dumb move by the Republicans to be simply turned round into some Democratic weakness? After your first GOP candidate proves to be not viable, you run a loser (Keyes) in a cynical attempt to appeal to black voters. If your ploy fails by 60 percentatge points you can then say all the Democratic guy did was beat this hypocritical loser. Good for a laugh I guess.

<i>"but I ve heard the guy speak. He s dynamic as hell, young, energetic, and good-looking.
Bill Clinton without the Gov Resume? "</i>
Charisma goes a long way in presidential politics. I.e., Clinton, JFK, Reagan, more so than actual politics, I'd say.

<i>"put obama on as the VEEP& "</i>

With whom would you suggest, Pedro? (please don't say Hilary).

put obama on as the VEEP.....then he gains the experience and americans can tell if he has what it takes for leadership, and his short resume doesn't matter as much, and may even help him.

>>Wonder if Tail Gun Tommy has any shrapnel wounds from all those Vietnam fighter missions.

Dugger...you're just a lousy person. Debate closed.

Farris...I know what you're saying....Obama's resume is short. It's a problem...but I've heard the guy speak. He's dynamic as hell, young, energetic, and good-looking.

Bill Clinton without the Gov Resume?

JSA- I absolutely have the same respect for Obama as you describe in spite of the fact that I don't agree a lot with him politically. But he cetainly one of the more sensible and sincere Democrats when it comes to interviews and speeches.

He would need to have a few more accomplishments under his belt to become President. It would be very interesting to see how the race baiting would play out with an Obama campaign. My guess is that he and his campaign would remain well above that frey as he always has, but there would be TONS of peripheral groups stirring the pot with 2X4s.

Marty - Re: Clinton stumping for Rape Gurney Joe: (though it's totally off topic for this post)

I think it shows what a class act Clinton is. Here he is, willing to forgive the principal member of his own party that stabbed him in the back during the impeachment coup. Would Bush do the same? But Clinton also takes the important position of indicating that he will support the winner of the Dem. primary. In this sense I look forward to Bill campaigning for Lamont after August.

Marty- that's an interesting question. Maybe we'll never be completely beyond race, but things are light years better than they use to be. I know politics isn't golf, but look how admired and respected Tiger Woods is. Or Condi Rice and General Powell for more relevant examples.

Is there (not their) anyone? As I said above, I'd like to see him get more experience, too. But barring something really drastic, is there any doubt he'd be re-elected to the Senate handily? A landslide victory in a populous state against whoever would be hard to ignore.

I would like to see him gain some more experience, and historically candidates running directly from the Senate don't fair well. But one thing I've noticed in conversations with my conservative friends is that he is the one Democrat who has their respect. According to them, he is sincere and isn't just out for himself.
