The Bush Bounce!

I would say its a dead cat, but that would probably be offensive to dead cats

Less than four months before Election Day, the latest FOX News Poll finds that voters strongly favor the Democrats on key issues such as the economy and gas prices, and give the minority party a double-digit lead for control of Congress this fall. For most of President Bush s second term in office, more Americans have said they disapprove than approve of his job performance and that is again the case in this new poll.

The president s approval rating dropped to 36 percent, down from 41 percent approval two weeks ago and 40 percent in mid-June. Bush lost ground this week among some key constituent groups, such as Republicans, whites and men. Overall, 53 percent of Americans say they disapprove.

ONWARD!

What do you suppose the pollsters will come up with to explain yet another failure of polling to predict the results? Since we dare not say vote fraud, what will be the tissue our MSM pulls over this one?

  2. Frank_D says:

It is important to remember that the president got his bounce after the killing of al-Zarqawi in Iraq… it naturally created hope that things would get better. Several weeks of bloody footage from Iraq have pretty much dashed those hopes.
Oh, yes… The non – liberal biased press once again gives Bush a pass on Iraq…

  3. buma says:

bush bounced on the HUGE images of the dead Zarqawi’s face, then descended again as the smaller background noise of the daily carnage of scores of Iraqis continued unabated. What part of the truth are you having problems with frank? The modern-day head-on-a pike presentation by psy-ops, or the daily body count of Iraqis that can’t be ignored or silenced?
The Iraqi guy who works in my office was in favor of Bush’s splendid little war originally, and was the only one of us to vote for the Cheney Administration in 04. Now he says the emails from his relatives tell about how everything is unraveling. His cousin’s wife and infant child were kidnapped for $1 million ransom. His sister is moving her family out of Baghdad to Dubai in a couple of weeks.
What is incongruent here is not the reporting of the ongoing chaos, but the prepackaged propaganda from the WH.

  4. scratch says:

…strongly favor the Democrats on key issues such as the economy and gas prices

I would like to see the poll where these same people were asked to explain the Democrats’ position on these issues.

  5. Frank_D says:

I have no problem with the truth: The truth is that Bush has never got a free ride from the press.

  6. SaveFarris says:

These polls are no different than the ones in early 2004 which showed a Generic Democrat beating Bush. Once it gets down to candidate vs. candidate, you’ll see the Republicans move back out front.

  7. White Whale says:

    Frank,
You probably should not use words like “never” because they are impossible to assertain. Can you prove that Bush has “NEVER” had a free pass from the press?

  8. PD100 says:

“Once it gets down to candidate vs. candidate, you ll see the Republicans move back out front.”

    How about the Battle-Front?

    - for a change…

  9. Yes, the media has never given Bush a free ride, yet there’s a whole (well-sourced) book with examples of just that free ride. Keep pretending.

  10. Frank_D says:

    How about “hardly ever”?

  11. buma says:

He got a huge free ride from the press in their drumbeat for the invasion of Iraq.

  12. duros62 says:

A poll on Fox News that favors Democrats?
    The horror, the horror…

  13. Rounds77 says:

Hardly ever? When his popularity was high, anyone who questioned this administration was labeled a traitor (well, they’re still labeled that now, it’s just that most don’t buy that anymore). Now when the administration is questioned, the new label should be “Average American” (see polls).

Why aren’t you average Americans anymore Frank and Farris? What special insight do you have that the rest of us don’t? After listening to you and your ilk blather endlessly on this web site, I’d say you’re mindless Republican robotons who see success where the vast majority of us see abject failure.

Why are you so sure you’ll be winners in the fall? You’re so disgustingly cocky about a win you haven’t even gotten yet.

  14. Frank_D says:

    Rounds77: Aren’t you?

Did you ever hear the saying, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”

So are the Democratic attempts to take the White House and the Congress.

They’ve been doing the same thing since 2000, and they make no progress.

  15. Rounds77 says:

Frank, does that mean you see “Stay the Course” as insane? Wow, we have something incommon!

BTW, the Republicans are doing the same thing, as well. Shall we say gay marriage and flag burning, and, possibly, terror alerts.

Did you ever hear the saying, “You can fool some of the people some of the time…” I just hope you can quote it better than your brilliant leader.

  16. White Whale says:

    Frank,
“Hardly ever” is a non-qualatative term to me, but if you provide examples then I could at least discuss this issue, but as Oliver has graciously pointed out that there is research to suggest that the press treats Bush like a spoiled child. I wish the media didn’t operate like People magazine, but like the liberal media fallacy(that died 25-30 years ago) your assertion that Bush is some sort of persecuted President is laughable. Nixon, Clinton, and Carter are all laughing how supersoft criticism is in todays media.

  17. Rounds77 says:

Whale de blanco, what needs to be understood about this whole left-leaning MSM is that the right won’t be happy until the news becomes 100% favorable to them. Similar to their whole “activist judges” thing. And similar to their whole power grab thing. They want 100%. If they had their way, this country would have one party rule.

I agree with some conservative ideology, but I hate the way they govern. It verges on gestapo-like.

  18. BD says:

Actually, I tend to agree with Thomas Frank about why the conservatives can’t shut up about the liberal MSM: it feeds into their persecuted martyr complex.

“Damn,” they think. “We’d have recreated Eden here on earth if it weren’t for the media. Or the Democrats. Or the gays. Or the French.” Or whoever. The continued conservative fantasy of perpetual underdoggedness is a hungry beast.

  19. Frank_D says:

You really think the liberal media fallacy died 25 – 30 years ago?

    ’nuff said…

  20. Frank_D says:

He knows as much about about conservatism as he does about Kansas — Nuttin’!

  21. Sundown says:

Considering that he is a native of Kansas, you are the one is sounding ignorant.

  22. Frank_D says:

    I didn’t write a book about Kansas.
Living there doesn’t make him an expert.
How long would it take you to write a book about your home state?

  23. z adura says:

Frank has no time for books or factual substantiation. He’s too busy posting incessantly here. Sort of like the toothless, blind hound dog who barks from the safety of his shady porch at the passing cars.

  24. frameone says:

“Living there doesn t make him an expert.”

That’s awesome reasoning there, Frank. Just awesome. Let me ask you, did you read the book?

  25. Frank_D says:

I’ll leave you two to finish the dialogue — it seems as if my input isn’t required…

    Nice one, z adura! :-)

Roni: Nice one, z adura! :-)

    What a wordsmith you are!

  29. Roni says:

Thanks, Frank! More pleasant to read than narcissistic sociopath or Nazi prick, yes? How did the DJ’ing go today?

  30. Roni says:

    We haven’t forgotten!

    LOL

  31. drpedro says:

    the ever forgotten point:

Bush isn’t running for office again.

    LOL

  32. roche says:

    drpedro:

Certainly, Bush is not eligible to run for office again. However, a significant number of officials (many or most of whom are Republican) are.

As such, when they see that Bush is not particularly popular, they may feel that it is not to their good fortune to be closely tied to him. Thus, the implementation of his agenda could become significantly more difficult.

(Of course, politics is not my strong suit, so I’m certainly open to the possibility that I am likely wrong.)
