Wait, dead people are off limits in political ads? Best tell the Republicans who invoke 9/11 like a coked-up monkey banging a cymbol…

  2. SaveFarris says:

I agree. It’s nowhere near offensive as the 2000 NAACP “Chains” ad. Still, you gotta love Democrats appropriating dead soldiers for political gain. Half their voters come from cemetary rolls. Why not highlight their largest constiuency?

  3. drpedro says:

baseless? I gave graphic descriptions of how ridiculous that add is.

You want baseless? Check out your moonbat and his non-sequitor about a bush add from 2 years ago…..

Differnet, if you assume the two ads are equivalent, then are you saying bush’s ad is ok, or are you saying the democrats ad is a sleazy one?

  4. Frank_D says:

Nothing to see here. Use the ad. Use it a lot.

You’ll still wake up the day after Election Day, scratching your heads, wondering, “What went wrong?” We had that AD! THAT AD!

  5. drpedro says:

    Oh.My.God.

I had no idea how desperate the demos had become!

    It pimps our war dead.

It pimps our living military (the cobra pilot “saluting” the camera!)

    It pimps….BILL CLINTON! LOL

    Classic

“Brand Democrat: Moving ahead, by looking back….”

    bwahahahahaha!

  6. differnet says:

    dr. pedro (cough, cough),

but it was perfectly alright for Bush to wrap himself in the 9/11 dead during the 2004 campaign. not to mention, continously using soldiers as a back drop for his “charm offensives.” well, i have to give you credit for being an unmitigated hypocrit.

  7. drpedro says:

Ok, everyone has to take a drink when the next moonbat say’

    “but,but,but….Bush did it too!”

  8. Two baseless GOP attacks within seconds of each other. Not surprising.

  9. midderpidge says:

Talk about looking back. The entire republican party is based on looking back. The advertise it as the fifties but would really like to go back further to about the 1300s.

  10. simianceo says:

Well is anyone surprised that the monkey asswipes on the right are whining loudly about how badly they fucked things up? And then trying to blame liberals for it? What losers. Conservatism was already dead before WWI.

  11. Marty says:

I think it’s a great ad. Please. Run it over and over and over. Please.

No better way to fire up the base than rallying around “future speaker” Pelosi, and “Majority Leader” Reid.

    Strong.

  12. Bushwacked says:

Still, you gotta love Democrats appropriating dead soldiers for political gain.

Talk about the “pot calling the kettle black”. With all their shortcomings, like voting for the resolution that supposedly “authorized” this idiocy, at least democrats are not the ones who pushed us into the unnecessary war that got them killed in the first place. That responsibility belongs to none other that the CIC who made the decision to invade Iraq, at least that’s the rumor, Those who still support him just don t like being reminded of the truth.

Half their voters come from cemetary rolls. Why not highlight their largest constiuency?

Republicans on the other hand are the best at dirty tricks and making up lies, since they have the dirty trickster in chief working for them.

  13. JayTea says:

    Completely off topic:

Oliver, I hope you’re sitting down, because I’m about to offer you an unqualified compliment.

One element of your redesign really impresses me. I am very impressed with how new comments fade in as they’re posted. It’s a great visual effect.

    J.

  14. differnet says:

    dr pedro (cough, cough)

what i’m saying is that the Dems played “nice” too long. the republicans want them to continue to play nice and are shocked when they don’t. you and most conservatives are a bunch of whiny babies or more like school yard bullies. there is no advantage anymore in democrats playing fair. so suck it up. if the republicans hadn’t been such asses then the state of politics wouldn’t be where they are now. this is something you brought on yourselves, so stop whining.

  15. The Left Supports the Troops…

As long as they’re dead and they can be used in a political ad. What better way to show your support, right? I mean, other than asking that those deaths be in vain and everything…

And I just love the Clinton voiceover. Was that 6 years ago???…

  16. simianceo says:

    Cons are WATBs.

  17. SaveFarris says:

Vote for Democrats and there will never be another Hurricane again!!!

BTW, when will MediaMatters take the DCCC to task for faking a mugshot?

  18. Jay C says:

The ad is pretty good right up until the end when it lingers on Bill Clinton for almost 10 seconds and it pretty much takes away from everything prior to it. It’s pointless. If the Democratic Party is strong enough to win with those they have in office now, they wouldn’t need to remind people of BC.

  19. Bushwacked says:

If the Democratic Party is strong enough to win with those they have in office now, they wouldn t need to remind people of BC.

Maybe the republicans should include Bush’s Iraq speech in all their adds, like the WMD and “mushroom cloud” parts. I’m sure with his current approval rating it’s bound to make the difference.

  20. b1ffa says:

Yeah I agree. Good ad, shame about the lingering look to the past.

  21. jayfman says:

The Tom Delay “mug shot” is TOTALLY BOGUS.

If Republicans ran something equally phony, you would be ALL OVER IT.

  22. drpedro says:

differnet I am not shocked at all. It isn’t that the demos aren’t “playing nice”…it is that the ad is an absolutely appalling piece of marketing.

It’s trite, patently using the war dead for an attempt at polical advantage, doesn’t actually convince you to vote for anything (except maybe bill c?). It is truly a little nauseating to watch. You would think with all of Hollywood in the leftists pocket, you could at least come up with something better than that dreck.

Ask Paul for an honest opinion…that is what he does for a living. I think even he will agree it is a pretty bad piece of work. But I will echo my conservative collegues and say, run it. Run it alot. Knock yourself out…it can only help the republicans….

  23. frameone says:

“Ask Paul for an honest opinion& ”

It is exactly what it is: A partisan political message designed to associate or reinforce the association of Republicans with failure and Democrats with hope. Pedro’s little tantrum is the best evidence I can think of that it gets its message across, right down to the natrual association of the colors in the titles: Red = negative. Blue = hope. It’s just the kind of hardball propaganda the Democrats have been needing to put out there for five years. It isn’t as hardcore as the “Daisy” ad (and maybe it should have been) but it makes it’s point without reservation: The republicans are fucking up this country.

The only thing you could really criticize the ad for, as propaganda, is its manipulation of Tom Delay’s mug shot. Anyone who’s seen the real picture knows that Delay was grinning like an idiot in the photo and will instantly recognize that the Dems mocked up a different impression. Good propaganda doesn’t expose itself like that. They either should have found a way to play up the grinning idiot image or used a headline or something instead.

And I don’t think the Clinton reference is a mistake. It’s another subtle sign that the Dems are standing up for themselves by reclaiming their own history and heroes. The public knows what the republicans thinks of Clinton. They know that the Democrats have been slow to defend him personally and politically since the impeachment because they were afraid of being labelled “immoral” or some other such nonsense.

All in all it rallies democrats, pisses off republicans and just might sway middle of the roaders who are already rejecting Bush by wide margins.

  24. buma says:

Listen to the winger outrage over the Dems using the vivid results of years of Republican policy to score political points! Why not hold up the effects of unbridled GOP decision making for all to see? It’s just a portrait of Your GOP at Work.

  25. JWG says:

What’s with the wind turbines? Is that a backhand against Teddy?

Seriously, run that ad all over the place. Please.

  26. JK says:

That’s some seriously powerful imagery. Jay C at least has the courtesy to admit it’s a decent ad, although I think Bill Clinton is seen as a Democratic Icon, and a reminder of better times (no war, strong economy).

(Ask Franc what his “final solution” is for Bill Clinton.)

The rest of the usual GOP monkeys give canned responses above.

I sense a bit of fear on the right.

    JK

  27. JWG says:

    Good for Oliver. It’s always a win-win!

When Democrats complain aggressively about a Republican claim (like Webb vs Allen), Oliver cheers that Dems are strong.

When Republicans complain agreesively about a Democratic claim (like in this ad), Oliver cheers that Republicans “fold”.

  28. Bushwacked says:

The Tom Delay mug shot is TOTALLY BOGUS.

If Republicans ran something equally phony, you would be ALL OVER IT.

The bogus Tom Delay shot should be removed so they can replace it with his name in big letters. All most people need to see are the words “Tom Delay” which epitomize corruption on the far right.

  29. drpedro says:

Well, Paul likes it, and I can’t really argue with him, cause it is his line of work.

My criticism stands though, in my opinion. I think run of the mill americans will find it distasteful, and I suspect the democrats will suffer for it.

Run it. Please. Run it a lot….

  30. Rounds77 says:

“It is truly a little nauseating to watch.” Pedro

If it didn’t make you vomit, I certainly hope the next Democratic add does.

I would LOVE to see the Democrats roll out a campaign just as slimy as anything ever produced by the right. Give the right a taste of their “nauseating” medicine. In order to do that, though, the Dems would have to find someone as creatively sinister as Rove.

Unfortunately, there isn’t anyone. How sad the Dems may lose because their party didn’t have their own ultimate slime ball.

  31. Frank_D says:

Once again, the Democratics are too “nice” to win. Yet they bemoan the fact that they can’t fight dirty.

    Go ahead.

    Make our Election Day…

  32. Bushwacked says:

Should have been “pro-choice”. Unfortunately, Spell check doesn’t catch a mistake when the mispelled word is still a word.

  33. Bushwacked says:

Run it. Please. Run it a lot& .

I am sure they will. Actually this ad is being run free of charge on the MSM, so you don t have to worry about that happening. The louder the republicans whine the more the MSM will play it.

There is one catch though. The louder republicans whine, the more this ad is played and more and more voters are reminded of why they don t approve of what s going on in the first place.
While most democrats and the majority of voters are outraged over the failures that this ad represents, republicans in congress are “outraged” over the ad. Guess which one’s going to last longer and move the most voters to the polls.
One thing, democrats must also promote a message of how they want to change things in order to really take advantage of the current mood in the country.

Hmmm, President Rudy Giuliani (according to Chris Matthews)- moderate, pro-chice, pro gay rights republican with a democratic House and Senate. Not bad, eh Pedro.

  34. drpedro says:

don’t look now demos…another one has left the reservation!

    Caste him out, a’la Joe…..Apostate!

“I strongly recommend that you pull this ad and delete both of these clips before running it again,” Spratt (D) wrote Rahm Emanuel,

  35. drpedro says:

Oh, I like the first frame of that video though….it looks like ol’e Rahm is getting arrested!

  36. SaveFarris says:

And once again, Democrats cut and run.

  37. Zython says:

And once again, Democrats cut and run.

So lemme get this a-straight. The Dems get criticised by the right for having the ad. Then they get critisized by the same people for pulling the ad. Now there’s “flip-flopping” for you.
