What is Colin Powell’s deal? He says now that Gitmo should be closed. Yet somehow he never let on… WHEN HE WAS SECRETARY OF STATE.

    Oliver, it’s never “too” late to speak out. I doubt Colin Powell would have had much backing if he had spoken out then. His only real choice was to have left sooner, like when he found that dear leader was usually not listening, only pretending.

    Interesting, if threadbare, conservative counterattack posture in this post. You don’t like what Powell said but you don’t have the cojones to directly disagree with someone on your side of the aisle, so instead you attack the guy who posted the article. Nice job, but a waste of time and bandwidth. Get a new tactic. This one doesn’t work any longer.

    And, if you’re going to continue peddling GOP talking points, you should think of yourself first when you throw around racist labels like “house n*gger,” even by implication.

    Powell made the mistake of thinking he was dealing with rational Republicans, not fascists like the crowd of neo-Nazis currently occupying the White House. He made his bed when he agreed to deliver his huge pack of lies to the UN in February 2003, even though he knew he was lying through his teeth. I’m glad he’s speaking out now, but he has no credibility with me, because he abandoned his integrity long, long ago. The blood of tens of thousands of Americans and Iraqis is on his head as well.

    I say what I mean, and mean what I say.

    Powell was presiding over the “do nothing” State Department, that made policy based on what was going on in the countries where they were working, instead of the country they were working for — this one.

    There’s a lot less anti – Bush crap coming out of the State Department now, because Secretary Rice runs a tighter ship.
