David Neiwert documented increasing signs of violence from the right wing in the months before the 2004 election when it seemed John Kerry could win it, and with the continued erosion of Bush’s presidency we see a return to crazy muderous rhetoric in the conservative blogosphere. As August points out, this is part of a pattern where violence has actually been done to others.
“….but actual OCCURENCES of violence”
Good, I thought it was just me, but i clicked on all of Oliver’s links (something I’m convinced he doesn’t think anyone will do), and with the exception of the abortion doctor from years ago, I saw a lot of threats and some pretty harsh and repugnant rhetoric, but no, ya know, actual violence.
A couple of this Niewart fellas posts were pretty long so I’m not saying i didn’t miss something, but I thought it would be a little easier find since he linked them.
Wow, just when i think Oliver can’t top himself on head in the sand stupidity, there’s a post like this one.
It’s almost too dumb for words, so I’ll just say that, speaking as someone who lives in Philly and sees union goon squads working on behalf of Democrats in every election, Ollies selective outrage is either sad, amusing, or brain dead, or some combination of all three.
Yea, those damn violent republicans…..oh wait, THESE aren’t republicans!

Political motivations turned criminal Thursday night or early Friday when vandals smashed a large glass door with a section of cinder block at the Republican Party headquarters in downtown Flagstaff.
A pile of shattered glass joined egg shells filling the entryway to the GOP offices, located on Humphreys Street across from Wheeler Park. Fliers with information criticizing President Bush were staked up outside the door.
Star Tribune Condemns Kerry Supporters’ Attacks on Republicans at the State Fair
“The Minnesota standard of spirited but nonviolent political disagreement was violated during John Kerry’s visit to the State Fair Thursday, when three or four men, at least one wearing a “Laborers for Kerry” shirt, roughed up two College Republicans from the University of St. Thomas. The students were wearing costumes that resembled giant foam “flip-flop” sandals. One man was caught on camera elbowing a student in the head. An observer said he saw pushing, hip-checking and bumping that went on for 10 or 15 minutes.
And by the way, my previous post doesn’t demonstrate SIGNS of violence, but actual OCCURENCES of violence.
I do love Glenn’s blog though. He explains how the NYT gave wonderful descriptions of Cheney and Rumsfeld’s places, then criticises others for their descriptions of the Pinch Sulsberger’s place!
The leftists really have no shame (and a poor understanding of the concept of “hypocrisy” as well…..)
The author of the NYT article in question actually had permission to publish the article & photos of the houses from the Secret Service.
Pedro, what does that even mean? Was that a retort of some kind, or a non sequitir?
oh, well I heard that Pinchy’s doorman said it was ok too….
Sorry BD, I forgot who I was speaking to.
The editor of the NYT is named “Pinch” Sulsberger. His nickname is “Pinchy”, at least to his rich limosine liberal friends. I was suggesting that this filthy rich new york scion of money had a doorman, and that his doorman said it was ok to take pictures.
So, in summary….it was a retort.
Better?
Good!
Limosine liberal… as opposed to country club conservative?
Actually, I’m wondering why you felt that one could equate a hypothetical doorman with the Secret Service. Either you think too much of doormen or too little of the Secret Service.
And how could you “forget” who you were speaking to when this was the first comment I bothered to post to you on this thread?
Do you think…at all…before you type?
I feel further deconstruction is necessary though, since his post still remains incoherent. almost moreso now that he has “explained” it. How were we supposed to know the nickname this guy uses amongst his friends? (how, come to it, does pedro know it?) What does his wealth have to do with the issue at hand, either of rightwind violence or of the evil photographs actually being ok’ed by the DoD? What of this doorman? Where does he fit into the picture? Did he say it was okay to take pictures of Rumsfeld’s house? Or that its okay to take pictures of “Pinchy’s” apartment? or the building? Dammit what does it all MEAN… is it a joke or is that an actual quote? How does it even connect to the thread? Why did his head jerk back and to the left?! AAaaauuugghhhhhh!!!
drpedro who is so, So, SO sick and tired of forcing himself to log onto OW’s blog on a regular basis can’t fucking spell limousine properly?
So, in summary, it’s limousine, not limosine.
Better?
Good!
Wow DrDoper, those 4 were the best you could find to demonstrate your post? Of the four, the second was simple non-politically motivated burglary, one was a broken window, one was for slashed tires. The drive by shooting is serious, but an isolated incident. Some were about as serious as all the John Kerry lawn signs being stolen in my neighborhood.
On the other side of the coin I’ve seen plenty of videos of protestors getting attacked and beaten with fists, kicks, clubs, being maced, not including incidents involving the police. The entire Republican convention was one big example of abuse and violence directed at non conservatives. Mass bogus arrests, violence against protestors, etc…
But hey, someone broke a window. Dr Pedro is a cabinboy Republican.
Thank God Midderpidge thinks a drive-by shooting is “serious.” Unfortunately it wasn’t an isolated incident. There was another little shooting in Knoxville, “According to Knoxville Police Department (KPD) officers on the scene Tuesday, it is believed that the two separate shots were fired from a car sometime between 6:30 am and 7:15 am.”
But hey, someone said some mean things on a blog. Midder is a douchebag.
Oliver- I know that your talking point style of using “right” and “violence” in the same sentence serves your purpose, but I think you will agree that the tactics of both sides by a select few has gone beyond normal decency. (I know you won’t admit it because it doesn’t fit your agenda of blame, but maybe others will look a little more deeply at the issue.)
Greenwald’s selective use of incidents to castigate the right is easily mirrored by actual violence, threats of violence, and vitriol by the left.
It seems that politics in the U.S. is becoming the “football” of Europe, complete with diehard fans and hooligans supporting their teams. (Of course, maybe it’s always been that way, and we’re just getting old enough to realize it.)
Damn- always click the link first.
Now I’m laughing at you (and myself at the same time.)
Not your typical “right” that Neiwert is talking about there, dear Ollie.
For what it’s worth- the idiots he is writing about get as much disdain from the political right as the would from anybody else you would consider “more enlightened.”
This isn’t even worth commenting on.
Now Andrew McCrae was a real leftist.
