IOKIYAR

I’ve seen it too many times to get any sort of hope up. Don’t expect any sort of repercussions from this. Democrats and non-partisan folks have to follow the “accepted” rules of discourse and behavior, Republicans don’t. It’s Okay If You’re A Republican.

I hear you man, but I actually hold out some hope on this though. Lying and slander (in, funny enough, her book Slander) didnt stick, Making up facts didnt stick, publically calling for the death of her opposition didnt stick, suggesting people who disagree with the president are opportunist whores didnt even stick, but plagarism? Thats a criminal charge right there. Not that I think she’ll see jailtime (Caged Republican Heat… yigh…) but she will have to pay a fine, and more importantly, so will anyone who publishes her. She’ll become a liability not just publically but legally too. Even Regnery’s gonna second guess themselves before giving her free reign to say whatever she feels ought to be the truth.

  2. Yes, the NY Post, the Rupert Murdoch owned hotbed of liberalism.

Are you that stupid due to a medical condition or what?

  3. Cyrus the Virus says:

So Molly Ivins is a Republican?

  4. Rex Mundane says:

Shorter pedro: If I dont see what I dont want to see anyway, that means it doesnt exist, and that people who insist that it does are imbeciles. Have some damn tea then Doctor.

  5. drpedro says:

Has anyone here actually SEEN the supposed plagiarism? I went about 4 levels deep in those articles Oliver linked to and didn’t actually see a single example.

Although at one point one of the “pundits” said “There is at least one sentence that is copied in her book”…..

A couple of other pieces of “evidence” is that there is a paragraph from some other report in the book….some other public report. I would say based on the current “evidence” that Ms. Coulter may be guilty of not putting in a pair of quotation marks somewhere, but that is about it.

Another lefty tempest in a teapot. Keep the faith though democrats, maybe she will be found with an unauthorized Viagra in her bag!

  6. Rex Mundane says:

Theres a bit of a difference Cyrus, She only did it twice in her professional career (really once, the Schwarzenegger thing seems like either a coincidence or mistake) and has apologized for both of them. Ann has done it at least four times in one book, and has attacked the people who have pointed this out without acknowledging whether or not she is in fact guilty of anything.

  7. duros62 says:

    It’s just so funny, it’s sad…

A Media Matters review found several examples of Coulter blasting Blair for having engaged in plagiarism when news of Blair’s misdeeds became public in May 2003:
    * “The New York Times is to be commended for ferreting out Jayson Blair, the reporter recently discovered making up facts, plagiarizing other news organizations and lying about nonexistent trips and interviews. A newspaper that employs Maureen Dowd can’t have had an easy time settling on Blair as the scapegoat. Blair’s record of inaccuracies, lies and distortions made him a candidate for either immediate dismissal or his own regular column on the op-ed page.” [column, 5/15/03]

  8. Frank_D says:

The Rude Pundit’s not saying it is plagiarism, but he’s not saying it’s not.

  9. Rex Mundane says:

…um, wow? That one single out of context quote entirely exonerates Ann, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary? Hooray for frank who has shown us the light? This clearly deserves no further scrutiny?

  10. Rex Mundane says:

…okay, firstly, Ann doesnt need viagra to get her dick hard, just the blood of infants.
Secondly, plagarism isnt “the theft of an idea”, and a qute doesnt haveto be pithy to qualify. Any sentence taken directly from a source that is not attributed or cited counts. Heres a for instance from his rudeness himself:
(equivalencies have been boldfaced for the hard of thinking)

Here’s Coulter from Chapter 1 of Godless: The massive Dickey-Lincoln Dam, a $227 million hydroelectric project proposed on upper St. John River in Maine, was halted by the discovery of the Furbish lousewort, a plant previously believed to be extinct.

Here’s the Portland Press Herald, from the year 2000, in its list of the “Maine Stories of the Century”: The massive Dickey-Lincoln Dam, a $227 million hydroelectric project proposed on upper St. John River, is halted by the discovery of the Furbish lousewort, a plant believed to be extinct.

Strangely similar, no? By the way, that’s a story from 1976. Coulter doesn’t tell you that little tidbit, making you think it happened last week

She makes no reference to the article, no citation, no quotes, and yet this passage is virtually, but for the inclusion of two words and changing “is” to “was”, identical. This is not the only case in the book either, but it is rather the most obvious. Hopefully you will not embarass yourself further with your ignorance of basic facts pedro. You are welcome.

Also, is it tempest in a teapot, or in a teacup? Youve used both in your attempt to demean what you do not understand, and I would just like clarification.

  11. drpedro says:

    LOL!

You call the description of events like that plagiarism? I was expecting the theft of an idea, or a pith quote or something. But the description of someone blowing a hole in a pipline? No wonder the “Doctor” who is selling the plagiarism finding software didn’t come up with any examples!

Like I said, start looking for mislabeled prescriptions in her purse!

Another yellow-journalism tempest in a teacup courtesy of OW…!

  12. Rex Mundane says:

Does availability of the information change the accusation that Ann copied it directly from the article? NUH-UNH
Can it be argued that the sentence from the book manifested entirely independantly of the article which she neither quotes nor attributes? MOSTLY NO
What are the odds of that even happening? NIL
Is it fun to answer loaded questions that youre only asking yourself? DAMN STRAIGHT

  13. Frank_D says:

Excuse me, it’s no big deal.
Is that information something “discovered” by the writer? NO.
Was that information available only from that source? NO.
Was the writing style such that “borrowing” it gave credit to AC that was due to the original author? NO.
Is this just another attempt at a leftie “gotcha”? YUP.

Well, I guess I ll close by saying that I really don t care&

” … I really don’t care …” Read: “You handed me my ass and I don’t know how to respond other than calling you an arrogant wannabe Nazi prick which even I am getting tired of typing over and over and over again. I wish I could think of something original.”

  16. Frank_D says:

What can I say, Roni: “Look who’s talking?”
You haven’t said anything original since you got a userid.

  17. Frank_D says:

And that thread was? I can’t wait for you to tell me.

Face it, Roni, you’re a fraud (rest assured, I never called anyone that before).

If you made a half a dozen real comments with even a minimum amount of substance, let alone original substance, that’s a lot!

You’ve just been tailing me around, and occasionally Dr. Pedro, and making a damn fool of yourself.

That’s more attention than you will ever get from me again.

  18. Roni says:

Sure I have, Frank. I proved you a bald faced liar in a previous thread. Unlike you, I don’t post responses in virtually every thread nor am I compelled to parroting the same list of insults at the first hint of an argument.

  19. Roni says:

    Frank_D Jul 7th, 2006 at 10:34 pm

And that thread was? I can t wait for you to tell me.
LOL! When I posted the proof that you lied, you seemed surprised, then, too.

That s more attention than you will ever get from me again.
You keep saying that over and over and over again, Frank. Heh.

  20. Rex Mundane says:

…dude, just tell him when you did it if you raelly did it, otherwise he’s just gonna come back with something like “You continue to prove how stupid you are” or something, and while I know he has nothing better to do with his day than smarm off to people he doesnt know over issues he doesnt necessarily understand, its starting to look like youre no better. So please, both of you, pretend you’re older than 12, alright?

  21. Frank_D says:

Rex: You expect him to do something you can’t, because you’re unwilling, and he can’t, because he’s chronologically unable?

  22. Zython says:

Excuse me, it s no big deal.
Is that information something discovered by the writer? NO.
Was that information available only from that source? NO.
Was the writing style such that borrowing it gave credit to AC that was due to the original author? NO.

The information doesn’t have to be only available from one source. However, whenever you either paraphrase something or quote it, you must credit your source. In short, if she read about a fact she wrote about (all 5), she is required to credit the source.

A single uncredited paragraph can result in a big lawsuit.

Well, I guess I ll close by saying that I really don t care&

Damn, you already conceded defeat before I even got here. Could you hold out for a little longer next time? I’ll give this one to Rex.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. This is just too easy.

  23. Rex Mundane says:

Rex: You expect him to do something you can t, because you re unwilling, and he can t, because he s chronologically unable?

Ive never tried to prove you a liar Frank, just that you are wrong about… well alot of things so far, and I’m pretty sure I did here, with the possible exception of demonstrating to you how one of the Rights biggest names in paid public speaking getting in trouble with copyright law is a relevant issue. Nor can I prove that he proved you a liar because I dont know how, where he did it, if he did at all.
Also, what does “chronologically unable” mean? Cause it sounds like youre just calling him a stupid child or something, and I’m sure, what with how cool your kids think you are, that you’re way too mature for something that silly.

    The King has spoken.

  25. Rex Mundane says:

One man’s opinion. He is not a legal expert, neither am I, and I’m guessing you’re not either. I would say though that I do find it interesting that Ann will not even address these charges (calling the new york post names without addressing their arguments does not, of course, count) whereas she has publically and loudly gone after people who have charged her with slander and such. She lives to fight, but doesnt want a part of this battle? Why do you suppose that is?

  26. Zython says:

    Ann Coulter plagiarism charges overblown
    by kos

It doesn’t matter if it’s “overblown”. If it’s a chapter, a page, of even a single paragraph, plagiarism is plagiarism, and plagiarism is a serious charge. She and the publisher could (and should) both be sued for it.

    The King has spoken.

Natural for conservatives to support a monarchy rule. =P

  27. JWG says:

She lives to fight, but doesnt want a part of this battle? Why do you suppose that is?

Because she doesn’t really have a lot of fresh ideas of her own and this proves it. She makes her fame and money by being a flamethrower. This battle is nothing important as it only demonstrates what we already know. It is nothing but another (for some) lefty wet dream that goes unfulfilled.

  28. JWG says:

    plagiarism is plagiarism

And you don’t know what plagiarism is, if you’re going to use this as your example.

  29. JWG says:

In short, if she read about a fact she wrote about (all 5), she is required to credit the source.

    Nope.

  30. Frank_D says:

Cause it sounds like youre just calling him a stupid child or something, and I m sure, what with how cool your kids think you are, that you re way too mature for something that silly.

I struggled mightily to make some sense out of the above, and I could not. But based on what little I could gather, I would say this: What matters to me, and my children, in this context, is none of your fucking business.
If I think Roni is acting like a child, it is not because I think he is an adult acting like a child. If he’s not under 21, then he is indeed morbidly immature.

  31. Zython says:

    Nope.

That’s the best you can do? I’ve learned all about plagarism in high school and college. I think I know what I’m talking about. But enlighten us, oh wise sage, what is not crediting your sources not plagarism?

  32. Roni says:

    Frank_D Jul 9th, 2006 at 3:45 am
If I think Roni is acting like a child, it is not because I think he is an adult acting like a child. If he s not under 21, then he is indeed morbidly immature.

Well, geez, Frank, the bar was set so low:

I have a better idea, cleo and frameone: relax. Pestering people is not calling them on onything. And you may rest assured, Paul, that I am as far from being an idiot as yoy are from being gracious, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is not a single thing to
be learned from you. What in the world have you taught anyone? You have disagreed with me, called me names, taunted me, badgered me to answer everyone of your nitpicking questions, but
what have I learned from you? I ve learned a hell of a lot about you none of it good, but nothing from you.

p.s. frameone: If that s what the article says, then why are you hounding me about? What do you want from me?

Cleo: Where is this anti – liberal bile I spout? If you say it, be prepared to defend it. Is that something like when the guy with the thick black mustache says, Tell us what we want to know, or you die ? Damn, you guys are intense.

    April 2nd, 2006 at 10:05 pm
Why don t you stop badgering me, frame?
    Uh, Frank?
Maybe if you would curb your pathological obsession with this blog, quit your deliberate bear-baiting, your ad homenim attacks, spin, outright lies and just plain bad faith antagonizing of anyone who disagrees with you, most of the people who read this blog wouldn t constantly feel the need to choke the living crap out of you and thus post responses that may sometimes hurt your feelings. But mostly, it wouldn t hurt if you would just get away from the computer and take a break from this blog for a few days. Christ on a pogo stick, Frank! I have never seen such an obsessed and obsessive blog commenter in all my life. You are EVERYWHERE on this blog, in almost every thread. Day and night. Weekend and weekday. On this thread alone you ve posted 11 messages over the course of 24 hours. What the hell?

    Frank_D Says:

Matty: I truly appreciate your comments. However, you need to understand that it isn t most of the people who read this blog.
It s Paul Malcolm, aka frameone, who is the bane of my existence. There are very few people on this blog who are unaware of that.
No one on this blog even approaches his relentless harassment, his insulting, uncouth, arrogant and condescending behavior.
I have asked several people on this blog to search the threads for evidence of one time I ve insulted someone before they insulted me. Not one person has found one example. You don t even know me, and before you could get around to expressing your concern, you felt compelled to accuse me of deliberate bear-baiting.. ad homenim attacks, spin, outright lies and just plain bad faith antagonizing of anyone who disagrees with you. You then followed that with the mistaken observation that most of the people who read this blog & constantly feel the need to choke the living crap out of [me]. Of course, your answer is that I should take a break from this blog for a few days. I ve taken a break from this blog for a few months in the past, and you know what? It was like I had just returned from the bathroom. Maybe if there was someone on this blog who called themselves liberal, who acted like one, I might believe them. If only&

Your Lucy from Peanuts psychiatry would have clients asking for their quarter back. I was very clearly making a point that I actually do have other things to do with my life than to humor the madman frameone. There was no hint that I expected someone to care about my problems. Along with about 5 other people, I am in a nest of liberals. I have long ago and I mean long ago seen through the hypocricy of liberal tolerance , even in its most recent incarnation at the (NYT sponsored) aBuzz, going back to 2001.
But did you proofread the last paragraph? Were you sleepy? Drugged? Drunk? Remember, the more the baby is ignored, the more he will scream, so resist the urge and maybe he ll learn to be civil. You should have issued a beverage alert with that sentence!

Ignoring me will make me more civil? What will make you more civil? {I already know that nothing will make frameone more civil It ain t in im , and cleo is just a blowhard, who thinks obscurantism combined with the use of polysyllabic words is a sign of intelligence.

Bill L. If anything is to be admired it is your skill at misinterpretation, use of imagination, and, like most liberals, your assumption that you know more about what I mean than you do. Too funny. I point out that Frank, like many on the Right, takes it as a given that the truth is so fully behind him that he never has to actually support his arguments, and he counters that I m wrong but he doesn t have to prove it. Awesome. But then again, when you have the staggering power of truthiness on your side, the petty opinions of elitist liberals are little more than a speed bump, eh?
And on that note, I m done contributing to the let s make another thread all about Frank syndrome that s becoming a staple around here lately.
