You went OT on this thread about extremism to say something about Obama, positive or negative, I still can’t figure out. I happen to agree with Obama; that while I may not subscribe to the same beliefs as others, it won’t hurt me to respect those beliefs. A statue of the 10 commandments in front of a courthouse is not going to be the end of our society, nor is a creche at town hall.

 It is doubtful that children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance feel oppressed or brainwashed as a consequence of muttering the phrase  under God,  he said.  Having voluntary student prayer groups using school property to meet should not be a threat, any more than its use by the High School Republicans should threaten Democrats.

Whatever the challenger did, he motivated the hard right wing base that votes in primaries. The more reasonable voters who only show up for general elections would have handed the challenger a spanking.
