Conservatives have to demonize the Wrong People when they speak up. They’re just following Conservative Principles when they do that.

And this guy is grousing over one comment?
And Oliver claims this is what Conservatives do.
Interestingly, since in his POV we have nocompassion, it shouldn’t even be news.
Of course, the news is the phoniness of liberals.
…except that in your POV liberals are inherently phony, so thats not even news either by your logic, right? HaHA! Caught you in a logic trap I have I have!
Course I know you dont defend such jackasinine comments as the ones in that email Frank, disagreeable you may be but evil you are probably not so muchly. But thats an interesting little way of getting around having to address the actual substance of his point, that in spite of what I think even you would have to agree is a sign of unhingedness from the right there, it is only ever the examples of it on the left that get major focus in the media. Would you care to address that or perhaps theres something else unrelated to the topic you can blame on liberals?

While the phoniness of liberals may not be news to me, it might be news to liberals.
Anyone reading this blog would have no trouble determining whether liberals are more or less civil than conservatives.
Liberals lead in the incivility department by many lengths. Of course, without frameone and alexcorrigan, it would be closer to a tie.
So perhaps focusing on anyone’s blog is not the answer.
So let’s look at the post:

“The cons” don’t even deserve the courtesy of being referred to as conservatives. Obviously, it is better to lump them on with either criminals — convicts, or with simply in all ways being opposed, as in pros and cons
“Express their” means we’re about to be treated to an unwarranted stereotype, the bete noire of the “compassionate left.” Of course, no violation of morals, ethics, or accepted behavior is wrong when directed by the left at the right.
“True feelings” means that when conservatives are not being uncivil, it is only to deceive others.
And, of course, “again” signifies the repetitive nature of this behavior.

Of course, there is a serious fundamental flaw in the argument that it is resoundingly clear from reading this blog who is the more civil.
It’s a liberal blog.
That means that those who leave comments, often unsubstantiated by any outside source and seemingly crafted soley to insult or denegrate the general audience, naturally provoke varying degrees of hostility. It also makes it nearly impossible to distinguish between a post meant for actual debate and one meant only to incense (though an ongoing resistance to any outside sourcing is usually a good clue). Still, I’ve rarely seen the conversations stoop much lower than grade school insults and taunts.
I’ve seen plenty of the same on conservative blogs, simply with the positions reversed. I’ve also seen much worse, at least in my opinion.
As for the comment cited over at C&L, it was meant to be an example of what kind of bile gets sent their way, in volume, on a daily basis. More to the point, it is the kind of bile that is often whisked away into internet oblivion by the moderators trying to keep threads and discussions on track. That being the case, posters often have little idea of just how far either side can go, particularly when a particular party creates an atmosphere conducive to the more volatile fringe. That, by the way, is what I see going on in the immigration debate and the unnerving mainstraming of bigotry masquerading as patriotism.
As for OW’s contention that such comments are typical of the Right, well, it seems to me he is merely taking past lessons to heart. If liberal’s are easily demonized as unpatriotic, tax gouging elitist phonys with little more effort than simply tossing the meme out into the mainstream press (Coulter, Limbaugh, Hewitt, Savage, etc…. and while they may attempt to deflect criticism of their influence with the “pundit” label, I think there is little arguing that that is just a semantic game, especially when they are so ubiquitous), it has to be tempting to tar conservatives in the same fashion. I don’t think Oliver has made much of a secret of his frustration with liberal’s playing nice and trying to be too inclusive when all it seems to do is dilute their arguments and leave them open to attack. Certainly the notion of shutting down an argument with a simple “cons are at it again” argument is very tempting, especially if you have watched massively sourced articles dismissed as being “liberal ranting” worthy only of contempt. I personally have a hard time with the idea that two wrongs make a right, though it is hard to resist. Still, with some conservatives finally starting to question if Bush isn’t pushing things way too far, even for them (i.e. trampling the Constitution), trotting out the “you all suck…ALL of you” arguments seem counter productive.
This being an election year, I guess we’ll see how many conservatives have really jumped the fence and how many talk nice but get back in line come the Fall.

Frank, if you’re so turned off by liberals, why do you spend so much time here? I don’t think you’re converting anyone to conservatism because your arguments aren’t that great. So what’s your purpose?

I’m not trying to “convert” anyone. That’s how liberals define their condescension and arrogance, while browbeating conservatives.
What about an elaborately worded “tempers can flare on both sides and partisan trolls are bound to provoke hostility on both sides” needs attribution? Just pick a thread and start reading. As for “dozens of [my] other comments” lacking outside sourcing, that’s just a simple lie Frank, even if you only consider the fact that I haven’t made “dozens” of comments and ignore all the pretty blue linked text in most of my posts. Wait, are you color blind? Doh! I thought you were just being dishonest. My bad.

My point was that many comments are made without links, and I might be biased, but it is more often done by lefties.
That’s not surprising, either. If a conservative says the sun rises in the east, the liberals demand a link to back it up.
They, on the other hand, can write any numbers of lines of bushwa, without substantiation, because they think they’re always right, so no corroboration is required.
I’ll grant you the “dozens” was an exaggeration, even though I found this.
Interesting, if only for the fact that the vast majority of those hits aren’t me. Right off, if the “L.” in “Bill L.” is the guy’s middle name, you missed the mark. There also appears to be at least one other commentor out there who goes by “Bill L.”, too.
I actually tried to refine the Google search and found that most of my comments on this blog don’t show up, nor do many of my posts on other blogs. I have no idea why, as some hits are rather old and yet relatively new comments are completely missing. I’d need a deeper understanding of Google’s methodology and how blog comment archives are indexed and referenced to increase the hit rate. Of course, I could just go boolean crazy and hope that works.
