As I noted yesterday, Michael Steele is positioning himself as someone who stands above the two parties, with a vow to go to Washington and clean up the corruption. Of course, the problem is that it is his fellow Republicans who are responsible for the ongoing ethics and moral violations running rampant in D.C. Far from being a maverick of any sort, Steele is just another right-winger who will rubber stamp the failed conservative agenda.

Which is why Bill Frist is coming to town to raise some cash for him. Secretly, the right has organized a fundraiser for Steele with “honored guest” Bill Frist, hosted at the home of right-wing smear artist David Bossie (you’ll remember Bossie as the rabid anti-Clinton activist who got kicked out of his House job for deceptively editing transcripts in an ongoing congressional investigation). Here’s the text of the email invite:

So, in other words, Steele plans to buck the system and clean up Washington by partying with a senator under SEC probe who has presided over one of the least popular congresses we’ve ever had along with a far-right zealot who wrote smear books on John Kerry (who received 56% of the vote in Maryland), and Vice President Gore (57%). Oh yeah, Bossie also blames President Clinton (50%,54%) for 9/11.

That’s the kind of company Michael Steele is keeping. You know, to “improve” the tone in Washington.
