Pedro, for whatever reason, takes fright at this quote and responds by first pretending not to understand, and then with a crude stereotype of the people of another country.

I would say this is Fox News’ America.

It’s already happening. And he brought Iraq to this point. There’s no ambiguity about it. This shouldn’t even be about liberals vs. conservatives. This is about continuing to pour lives and money on a strategic blunder that cannot and will not work vs. deciding not to do that anymore. It’s macho failure versus prudence. And even the most jaded Malkinites are starting to realize that their best bet is to repudiate the failure, but blame it on liberals. Sad times for us all.

So, if they get their way, not only will Iraq be “wracked by ethnic cleansing,” and the “national government be coopted by death squads,” and “local government wil mean nothing more than religious fundamentalist street gangs with AKs,” but when it happens it will be Bush’s fault.

OK. Gotcha.

And, I don’t hate liberals (funny you can’t spell that word right).
I just think they shouldn’t be in charge of a country, especially the USA.

Nim, your post just quoted the original comment that OW linked to but didn’t add anything new to it. I don’t think saying that the statement “needs more love” really qualifies. So how was he (or anyone else) supposed to respond to you?

So Tom, what “ethnic” group was Pedro’s comment referring to that would qualify it for ‘ethnic nationalism’?

But even if he was tarring all British subjects with his comments, it’s still not racism. The closest thing I can think to call it is maybe “nationalism”. But even that’s a stretch. It’s no more racist than calling us “warmongering Americans”.

Nim, I think you need to dial the sensitivity down a bit. You appear to have it set on “11″ with the “Ire-boost” enabled.

Example:

“I’m against illegal immigration because…”

“That’s RACISM!”

“But from an economic standpoint…”

“RACISM!”

“But our tax dollars…”

“… and hospital overcrowding…”

Let me put this as clearly as I can: To the likes of Hinderaker, the pain of those who lost loved ones to this war only matters to the extent that the bereaved allow their grief to be used to prop up the war effort and Bush himself. If the bereaved relatives don t allow their grief to be used in this fashion, their sacrifice and loss no longer matter a whit  they re not to be pitied or empathized with, but scorned and humiliated as brutally as possible. Despicable.

Did Pedro make a remark deliberately denigrating British people in general, as an alternative to actually dealing with the quote I brought up, yes or no?

You can debate the accuracy of the word “racist” but it’s a semantic issue at best. Pedro insulted British people in general, call it what you like but it’s at least a relative of racism. Replace “British” with “Jewish” or even “French” and you’d have no problem.

Is this in response to the “pseudo-intellectual british” comment? Since when are the British a separate ethnic group?
