MSNBC has fired Rick Kaplan and is talking about going in (again) a “new direction”. MSNBC’s problem has always been that they don’t know what they are – look at their schedule, you’ve got political talk in Hardball which leads into their news show Countdown and then it becomes this weird mash of right-wingery (Scarborough, Carlson) and crime (Rita Cosby). They should keep Hardball and Countdown and build some personality-based shows around them. Not that I don’t have a dog in the fight, but they may as well program to the left because the Republican-lite isn’t working. Wingers will stick to Fox (this should be a clue to CNN as well), give the rest of us something to watch.
That said, they’ll probably hire Michael Savage again.
Ugh, that should be tell me what he *thinks… it’s too late!
No, they should focus on reporting news instead of slanting to the left or the right.
Dump the “newsertainment” and opinion shows and just give me the news. If I wanted to hear some idiot tell me what he things I’d listen to Air America or Sean Hannity.
I mean, good lord, I can’t even turn to Headline News any more without getting opinion shows.

I am totally with you on this. There is not ONE network that actually reports news. Everything is opinion, entertainment, who is screwing who, stupid animal tricks and fantasy. C-SPAN is the only thing that is somewhat like news. And you wonder why people are soo uninformed?
Or you could turn the damned thing off and do something else.
Just sayin’.
Do what…exercise or read…yeah right. Gotta go, my Big Mac is gettin’ cold.
Well, Olberman’s audience is growing and Ed Shultz is the number one talk show in at least one market (Seattle). The Daily Show and the Colbert Report get more viewers than a lot of those other blowhards on the “news” channels.
You know, there are as many of us on the left side as on the right. A good station could pick up a LOT of viewers.

Its gonna be great.
If Fox has one problem, it’s that, for a twenty-four hour news network, they really don’t do all that many stories. It’s the same thing, over and over again. The Clinton News Network is the same way. If MSNBC wanted to be different and find a real niche, they should report more stories and repeat themselves less often.
Dana. re: the Clinton News Network
But then again MSNBC could always hire Glen Beck away from CNN and give him a “prime time” spot.
Seriously, you are correct they do all tend to repeat the same thing over and over. I think the networks spend more time trying to figure out what their viewers want to hear instead of just reporting the news accurately. That goes for CNN and Fox.
