The Post Claps And Hopes
Tweet
Have you heard? Have you heard? Apparently the Bush administration is now a hotbed of discussion, they’ve eschewed their robot-like groupthink instead for an open circle of debate where all ideas are given an opening in order to better govern.
Sike.
But the Washington Post is sure hoping so, they’ve even put the story on A1 to demonstrate their faith!
A White House long accused of squelching internal dissent and ignoring outside viewpoints has been reaching out lately to prominent figures who have disagreed with the president. Bush just hired a Treasury secretary who opposed his policy on global warming and a press secretary who dismissed his domestic agenda as timid and listless.
That’s right, the White House invited Barry McCaffrey to a chit-chat, hired a Treasury secretary who isn’t an environmental philistine (of course, his position has nothing to do with the environment) and has hired a press secretary who has been tepidly critical of the President (from… wait for it… Fox News!).
Yes, surely the administration has put out the sign: “Come One, Come All, Because The Post Is Filled With Suckers”.
This is the same Bush administration, only less popular. They still walk in lockstep, they still deal in fantasy (somehow, cutting taxes for Paris Hilton helps the federal deficit… somehow) and they still lie (everything is great in Iraq, don’t believe what your eyes are actually seeing). But the Washington Post has decided the best place for the formerly great paper is to fit itself snuggly into the administration’s hind end and hope one day that the turd turns into a prince.

Given the soft bigotry of low expectations, Bush is indeed an open-minded man.
“Psych.” Like, “I psyched you out.”
