Lynn Swann, one of the black Republicans being hyped by the GOP and the press as the new hope for the right, is now down by 18% versus sitting PA Governor Ed Rendell.

    Yeah, it must mean the voters of PA are rejecting the whole concept of a black Republican. Because, a sitting governor in PA never wins a second term by double digits….unless you count Ridge in ‘98, or Casey Sr in ‘90, or Thornburgh in ‘82.

    Oliver, the media, at least here in the SE part of the state, have been saying Swann was in over his head almost from day one.

    the Philadelphia Daily News has a columnist named John Baer, who is based in Harrisburg (for you liberals, that’s the capital of Pennsylvania), that writes an anti-Swann column about every two weeks.

    About a month, month-and-a-half ago, a poll had Swann within three points. Rendell, who has a lot more money, responded by running ads all across the state, touting his accomplishments, and now he’s way ahead. The race is over.

    Regardless, his race was mentioned as A factor, but you were just as likely to see the fact that he’s incredibly popular in Allegheny County, a Democratic stronghold, as his biggest strength as you were his race.

    And speaking as someone that has had Ed Rendell as my mayor for eight years and governor for almost four, nothing makes him quake and shake.

    But according to the cons and the media, the prospect of a black Republican was so strong, Rendell would quake and shake.

    I don’t care, Democrat or Republican, why do these athletes, movie stars, rich folks, media figures, etc. think they can run for a high political office right out of the gate. It is insulting to those that have started at the bottom. i.e. phone banks, canvassing, precinct captains, heck the school board. The ones that really are arrogant are the businessmen. They ran a successful business so governing should be a piece of cake. Government is not a business. In the case of our current white house occupier, he sucked at both.

    Well, now I’m hoping Jennifer Granholm can fight back the tide of the execrable Dick DeVos in Michigan. Unfortunately, Michigan is dying, and the voters in that state hate everybody. They despise George W. Bush and Jennifer Granholm, blaming them both for job losses. So in comes the scion of Amway to save the day? I’m moving to Michigan in four weeks so I have a strong interest in that race. Of course, DeVos isn’t black. He’s Dutch, like much of the Michigan Republican establishment.
